How complex is Ninja at max level?

So, follow-up to my last question asking about jobs; I was considering giving Ninja a shot, as the class certainly seems to have the kind of drip and such that I'm looking for. However, I'm a little concerned about the gameplay at max level; I've given it a look at, but a lot of the older posts I found say that it's basically more work than other classes for a smaller reward.

The general consensus I found is that Ninja is the most fast-paced and intense job in the game, but it also only gives roughly the same payoff as other DPS classes. I've got no idea whether or not that's true, as I've yet to be able to get on and start leveling Rogue; I'm willing to accept some complexity for the sake of entertainment, but if the job is as difficult at high levels as some of the people I found say, then I might just end up looking elsewhere. Already got Samurai and Reaper for my current MSQ stuff anyway, and I'm gonna be leveling Red Mage for funsies, so it's no real skin off my back.

Anyway; how complex is Ninja at 90?

Also, shout-out to the people on my last post that encouraged me to level Red Mage; that kind of positivity is enough to make me want to actually play the job, even if I suck at it. So, thanks to you!

The floor is higher than most other jobs, but the ceiling is lower. It's also far from being weak or too complicated. and it's incredibly overtuned.

NIN isn't really difficult but it has the highest APM (actions-per-minute) of any job and you're going to be shoving a bunch of things in your 15s Trick Attack/20s Mug window and for the rest of the time you're basically just hitting 1-2-3 and dumping Ninki outside of that. If you don't like busy jobs with tight windows it's probably not for you, but it's also not "more work for less reward" because it is the highest DPS job in the game at the moment.

At the risk of sounding whiny; would I be able to fit all of Ninja's 90 rotation on a single 16-icon set? PS4 player here, still learning how to swap between different sets in combat - got some tips on that on my last question, so thanks for that - and I'm curious.

Try it with keyboard/mouse, it works great on Ps4 Pro.
    I couldn't do without my 30+ keybinds.

And maybe RDM fits your temperament more than NIN.

I've known people who can't have fun in close combat and others who are bored out of their minds in distant combat.

For me BRD and MCH are sleepy for example.

RDM is certainly a fun class, from what I was able to play of it. My main reason for sticking with NIN is fashion; there's some glamours I was wanting to make on down the line, using the Warg set from Shb more specifically, and there's no wolf tail armor for RDM sadly.

Besides, just started with Rogue, and it's going well enough so far; not even level 10 yet, granted, so I'll have to see how it goes, but I am curious.

EDIT: I think I stand corrected, actually: was looking over some armor sets, it looks like the PVP Kokuko Dogi chestpiece has the wolf-like aesthetic for Red Mage! Looks like RDM is back on the menu, everyone!

Its a busy job. You always have something to press and your constantly firing off some sort of ninjutsu or bunshin like a really fast mobile tank with knives. :3

Go through the crossbar setting and enable the expanded crossbars, this gives you easy access to other crossbars via pressing L2 > R2 and R2 > L2 (each can take you to half a crossbar) which can expand the buttons to 32, if you also enable W Crossbars, you can double tap L2 or R2 for another 16 for a total of 48 without having to swap your front bars.

Whilst you can have the W crossbars showing, you cannot have the expanded bars showing, however, by making use of a jobs unique buffs/mechanics, you can know when you can use something. For example for Ninja, you can only use the Raijus when you have the Raiju Ready buff, which is obtained after Raiton and since they are GCD based, as long as you can see a GCD action on the front bar, you know when you can use them.

For Red Mage, my Melee combo is on the expanded bar, I know when I can use it (50/50 minimum) so I don't need to keep track of the button itself.

If you do need to keep track of something, you can always setup a hotbar somewhere and place the action there as well as on your crossbar. It will behave exact same way, so you can keep track that way.

I never hard swap between crossbars and pretty much limit most of my actions to the 32 provided by the expanded crossbars.

No. Not even counting role actions, ninja has 17 buttons you need to set up for your core rotation. I resolve this by putting Meisui on the extended hotbar since you always use it in the same 2-minute window with ten-chi-jin and mug, but you will have to figure out your own method of dealing with that one extra action as well as the additional role actions you will want to have set (true north, second wind, bloodbath, and the ninja action shade shift)

The extended hotbars should serve you fine for this (I just use the double tap R2 to get 8 extra slots) for the single target. And typically I'll set up a second 16-icon hot bar for AOE skills, since typically you only need those if you're going to run the job for roulettes.
