Yes 44 pages of people still struggling or understand that “we should expect some level of competency” is not “I’m gonna call you garbage in game” it means that you can’t always teach people who don’t want to learn nor should people be in a level 86 dungeon if they need to be told that they need to use mitigation

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

People can make all the threads they want about this, it’s not going to change the reality: this game caters to a large and varied audience of different ages, experience and backgrounds and we should totally expect both good and bad players in story mode content, like it or not. I know a few pretty bad players who try their best and who put some real effort into it but remain bad no matter what. That is just how life works. Why do you think you find stupid warning labels on products such as “this cape does not enable flight”?
This is a game offering a somewhat broad range of casual and non competitive content, not a work environment where competency is expected.
For savage and extreme modes, there should be some expectations (maybe make Stone, Sky, Sea mandatory as a minimum...and even that is mega easy) but in story mode content, it is not going to change. The only way around that is to make your own party and invite people you consider competent.
Personally I don’t mind some bad players. I am more annoyed by the dumb and generic trash in EW dungeons (pull 2x two groups of adds, spam aoe till they die and arrive at boss) than by the occasional struggling tank which I am happy to help. I have never received any “you are not paying my sub” type of reply.

I mean if you honestly go into group content in a game where other people want to have fun as well and then provide absolutely no baseline you are just being selfish, it’s like this post says, we aren’t asking for much just a functional baseline you don’t need a shovel to get underPeople can make all the threads they want about this, it’s not going to change the reality: this game caters to a large and varied audience of different ages, experience and backgrounds and we should totally expect both good and bad players in story mode content, like it or not. Who’s selfish really? The player who struggles or the player who just wants to be done with the story mode dungeon as quickly as possible and who doesn’t tolerate that some people may have less skill? Anyway, all I was saying, is you can rant all you want, it is not going to change the reality.I mean if you honestly go into group content in a game where other people want to have fun as well and then provide absolutely no baseline you are just being selfish, it’s like this post says, we aren’t asking for much just a functional baseline you don’t need a shovel to get under

I’ll again say the selfish one is the one who goes into group content and doesn’t know what mitigation isWho’s selfish really? Again this is asking for the literal baseline, you cannot physically be bad enough that you can’t haphazardly throw out some mitigation or throw out an aero once or twice, nobody is asking for zero GCD heals or no close calls, the bar in the floor you probably expended more energy typing this post than just pressing rampart in a pack of enemies
How is this being construed as “Elitist players don’t want to be helpful they just want everyone else to be as good as them”

I’d rather run a story mode dungeon with a tank who is pleasant but struggles (I’ve healed such tanks, everyone who heals did) than an impatient passive aggressive player. To me it’s the latter who ruins all the fun and creates undue tension. And yes, some people genuinely struggle and I don’t mind helping them.I’ll again say the selfish one is the one who goes into group content and doesn’t know what mitigation is

I never said that. You simply don’t seem to understand that it is normal to encounter bad players and the only way around is to make your pre-made party. Nothing you say or write will change that. How is this being construed as “Elitist players don’t want to be helpful they just want everyone else to be as good as them”
Maybe you don’t but the other poster merely spoke of “competency”.

Struggles? Who struggles when it comes to pressing a button? I didn't realize George Jetson played XIV. He really should lay off of it, his index finger always goes into a zig-zag state when he presses a button not to mention his home life seems very stressful. :/Who’s selfish really?
