I'd like to suggest something akin to a world care taker that turns the overworld alive.

I see this working as follows:
1. Upon finishing all the yellow "Side content" quests for an expansion a person unlocks access to the dynamic overworld.
2. The dynamic overworld is the adventuring equivalent of endgame raidings.
3. Essentially this would require SE to keep random plotlines across the world popping in and out of existence.

**These random plotlines are just whats happening in the world at the moment, and they would appear and disappear with time regardless of whether adventurers complete them or not. They could likely go up every month replacing the previous set of events.**

Obviously they would be nowhere near the quality of the MSQ or even hildibrand, but it would keep the world from stagnating and keep it going, it would also encourage all the players to do all the side content to unlock a post expansion era.

These plots would have no relation at all to the MSQ. I feel like it is such a waste to leave such a vast world in its current state with no maintenance whatsover, it would people roaming and travelling. The nature of a world that is alive is that it is transient, so I get FOMO but to me the potential benefits of a system like this far outweigh the downsides that you missed out on some months interesting plot happening in the overworld.

I don't even think these would need rewards besides gil and exp. Since I'm pretty sure the people that enjoy this stuff aren't in it for a material posession.
