

The changes in 1.19 and 1.20 don't have anything to do with the new dye system, they were just to alleviate some of the problems with the current one.Reading Yoshida's post on color is not very helpful... It is over a year old and the changes he proposed were for 1.19 and 1.20 which we already have. All we got were pale pastels for some items. The other solution he mentions: rewriting how items are defined so that function and power depend on shape and color is a side data bit is the only way they can actually fix the color problem. They did not give us more colors in 1.20, so that means the redefinition of all items is going to wait for 3.0 or later. This is not what Yoshida's letter talks about. He needs to respond to this issue again.
Exactly. The Color ID system is to be implemented in 2.0 because the current server/programming structure doesn't support it.
