Day 1 Crystalline Conflict Community Cup Was boring.

Yes I really can't say much about it if some people watched it, it totally shows how this mode would be if we got any sort of queue with friends or premade teams, every match was basically one side, with no intense or any sign of a come back or anything.

Basically 2 teams start a match, 1 team just ran them over 0% to 100% with simply no fighting back, also who is idea was it to just make the win best of 1, I would of expected there will be 3 matches for every teams to play going through the 3 maps and who wins 2 of them wins the game, I'm not sure why we even got commentators to just describe how each team getting deleted one after another and get spawn killed? lol.

Please try for example how Overwatch League being handled, each game is basically the teams playing in 5 maps and then the best of 3 wins the game, this current rushing schedule is really embarrassing.

In short, I hope this shows the devs the messy balance right now, maybe day 2 will be better? I doubt it.

That's just my personal opinion and maybe my feed back, I do enjoy esport events, and I watched so many.

Wait, they're running a tournament setup and they're doing *best of 1's?*

How the hell is SE so incompetent at this? Have they literally never watched a single tournament of any other remotely successful competitive game before? Even chess doesn't play one-and-done games...

I wouldn't worry too much about the content of the actual games. There's no competitive scene yet, so everyone is just going to be using me unga bunga burst-focused solo queue strats.

I think we'd see a shift towards healing down and pressure if the game became sophisticated enough. You can easily survive through burst with Guard and Purify usage, but there's really no answer to healing down attrition play.

Watch more tourneys. There's plenty of single elimination going on.

Teams were accepted on the first come first served basis, so no wonder games were 2 min long especially with most of the games consisting of teams full of bronze-dia players against a full crystal/high ranked players.
The biggest problem is that the games are bo1, so you can get eliminated after literally 1 match.

PS. pls stop inting my solo q games.
    PS2. delete mch

For which games? Outside of group stages? You never do single elimination when you're at like ro16 or less. Hell, most games don't even do single elimination because imbalance is baked into the game itself - Starcraft and Counterstrike maps, luck of the draw and sideboard strategy in Magic, etc.

And are those streamed by the community team? The whole thing clocked in around 2 hours.

I'd have to agree, watching this tournament wasn't exactly exciting and nothing bad on the commentators but was it just me that felt really awkward when they were talking and stuff? again not talking smack or mocking anyone, they did alright but I certainly felt like it was a little awkward. Personally I far much enjoyed Preach's Kwehstiline Cup than I did day 1 of this tournament, I was invested in all the teams there, was fun to watch as they all weren't rofl stomps...well if they weren't up against the Lalafellas and it was best of 3 and the maps? no need to random pick a match if it's best of 3, rotate the maps per match, that's fairness right there.

So personally, I hope SE looks at this and does it better for next time, looking to Preach's unofficial event and some such to improve their own, instead of rushing into it, which I definitely felt like they rushed it? teams should be picked from high tier ranked teams instead of First come first serve, sure some will get shafted if your bronze but hey, it's a tournament, I play Rainbow Six Siege on the side for example and I realistically I don't expect to feature in their esports or tournaments either. which they also should after picking the teams, advertise them after the fact to get investment for a team to win and to get to know the players and the team comps.

I get this was most likely a trial run maybe, but there is some big potential if they tap into this right and I hope they do cause Preach's event is evidence of it being done better in my opinion.

I get why they did the first round as Best of 1, there were more teams and they had no idea how long it would take. I mean if every game was an overtime of 10 minutes and every team was present, it could have been a very long stream. If I recall the rules correctly, the plan was to do Best of 1 for the first round and then Best of 3 for the semifinals and finals.

The problem is the quality of the players. First come first serve does not work in a tournament. Every single game was a stomp and some of these players looked like they've never even set foot in Crystalline Conflict before. Just put something like: Having reached Crystal Rank in the previous season as a requirement to sign up. They filled up the tournament brackets too quickly and with very low quality players. I'm sure better players would have signed up if they could.

Pairing random groups with high end Crystals will end up stomps every time. I don't know how they can solve it aside from giving priority to high ranked teams, but then it would be less "community" event and trying to run 2 different brackets can just end up with alts on the easier one.

For community event just picking up and making teams on the go at the spot could probably work better, for competitive event you would need some kind of minimum bar for entry.

You literally just handle it like every other competently run public tournament does it. Open stages aren't streamed and it's where the weakest teams get weeded out. These are often single-elimination games. Then you have group stages, which might be streamed, but most people don't watch and it further winnows the pool. These might also be single-elimination, or each team plays a specified number of matches in single games against multiple other teams and the teams with the strongest W-L ratio advance while weaker ones are cut.

By time you reach ro16 or so, you've mostly weeded out the bad teams and are left with only decent teams. There will be some teams that are clearly stronger than others and crush their way to the semifinals, but that's literally how tournaments work. If you have amateurs in your ro16 or ro8, though, then you've fucked up. Or the game just literally lacks enough competent players to fill a proper tournament. Given the general attitude of players vs PvP, it's probably the latter.

Did SE cut off sign-ups at 16 teams? Or were there only 16 total teams that signed up at all? If they cut it off at 16... well, now they've learned something. Something that could have been learned by literally just looking at how any other team-based esport handles open tournaments, but still. If they didn't cut it off and there were only enough teams for a ro16... well, that means "competitive CC" is probably dead on arrival.
