    Random game crashes

    Character: Kessa Yarhu
    Server: Shiva
    Datacenter: Light

I have random game crashes lately. Most of the time in alliance raid (at least once per run) and a lot more often in delubrum reginae savage. But some times i can randomly crash in limsa or even uldah.
Errors started to appear around 6.1 patch i think, but even more lately. I did updated my hardware.

It can be nvwgf2umx.dll crash or ffxiv_dx11 crash.

    So what i did:
    Updated all drivers
    Updated firmware
Tried playing without any overlay at all
Underclocking, overclocking, resetting to factory clock my GPU and same with RAM
Did memetest for ram, no errors
    Reinstalled game
    Reinstalled windows
Deleted GPU drivers via DDU and performed clean installation of new drivers.
Reinstalling Directx runtimes, and C++ redistributable.
Changing game settings, enabling compatibility etc.

I can do 8ppl content(tho i still can sometimes crash there), but crashes in alliance raids and some other places are annoying. I've been trying to fix this issue for month now, but it is extremely hard to test out since it is fairly inconsistent. I've been playing game since stormblood release, had that problem few times, but it generally was fixed after patches.

Just in case hardware update was:
    I7-7700k to Ryzen 5600X
Geforce 1060 Ti to GeForces RTX 3070 TI
with that of course new motherboard and changed RAM from 16 to 32 GB.

I'll be honest, after checking out a lot of reddit posts, forum posts and random sites with "fixes" i don't have a lot of hope asking here. But asking never hurts. So any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Greetings Zextole,

Thank you for providing these details. I'm sorry to hear that this has been an ongoing issue. Were you able to notice an increase in the amount of crashes that occurred after the hardware update? Additionally, I would like to recommend the following suggestions to see if it may help with the crashing:

    - Please try performing a clean boot by opening your Task Manager and selecting the 'Start Up' tab. Once there, disable everything listed and restart the PC.
    - Making sure your anti-virus software has the appropriate exceptions for FINAL FANTASY XIV.
    - Reverting to an older version of DirectX to see if the issue persists.
    - Disabling any VPNs (if you are currently using one on your device).

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy Final Fantasy XIV!

Thank you for suggestions! No VPNs on my side, FFXIV got all needed exceptions in firewall and antivirus. Nothing loads at start so should be good too. As for using older dx version - dx9 seems to be working, but i won't call it enjoyable gaming experience.

Now to the good news. Scouting internet for solutions helped me to find A LOT of things to try i did that, no matter how stupid it sounded.

Just to recap things, clean windows 10 installation with fresh drivers on GPU, updated firmware for motherboard, updated chipset drivers and fresh clean ffxiv installation didn't help. Changing priority for ffxiv process in task manager and allocating only 6 CPUs to work with it didn't help as well.
So for ppl with AMD processor, not sure if there such function on intel ones, I don't really remember. But for AMD CPU's there is an option in bios for you called Cool&Quite - disable it. Let your CPU to work in normal mode or even aggressive one if you want. That option can undervolt your CPU when there is nothing heavy happening on PC.
Now for the fun part - pls don't laugh at me, i was really desperate there and was trying EVERYTHING. Found a suggestions that USB ports that you are using on your motherboard can play a role in crashes as well, i have no idea how and why. I have 5 usb devices attached to PC, so i changed ports and moved away from LAN port ( since on most of motherboards USB ports are near your LAN port ). After that i did DRS run this morning, not a single crash! So it worked! Hope it will help some ppl! (MAKE SURE TO UPDATE YOUR MOTHERBOARD FIRMWARE, ESP FOR AMD USERS)

And lastly i wanna add - yes, I found the solution, but that seems to be mostly problem of ffxiv code, that reacts so heavily on hardware operations (like overclocking or undeclocking) and even if you see dxerror or nvidia drivers error, it might not be actually GPU problem. It should be fixed by devs and i really hope it will be in upcoming patches (i don't have high hopes for small patches, but maybe for next expansion with graphic update? )

I hope my post will help ppl!

Right, almost forgot, turn off option Limit frame rate when client is inactive

You can find it in System configuration -> Display Settings -> scroll down to Frame rate section

Disabling, or leaving on light option Screen space ambient occlusion in graphic settings might be good idea as well!

    Good luck!

That someone would have to do this just to play the game because the devs can't code a game to work correctly is garbage. Your average person would have no idea how to do this and honestly when dealing with Bios and Firmware changes they shouldn't do it.
