Ardbert's Party vs the Scions Analysis

You could just do what a lot of people including myself do and just not respond to someone if you don't think they're worth your time.

To bring it back to FFXIV, if Emet-Selch thought the WoL wasn't worth his time, the Ascians would have won as the WoL would have been overwhelmed by light aether, not knowing what they were doing and having nothing to do with it all, and caused another Calamity. He just needed to not get involved.

Man was curious to check back on this thread and currently seeing how derailed it was to its original topic. Kinda says something about how much little of an impression the Warriors of Darkness (and I'm talking about the other 4 besides Ardbert) left in this game's story were people care more about talking about other things than wanting to debate about each individual WoD. Seriously the community as whole cares more about Ardbert than any of his other companions, and for a good reason since he was given the chance to have more of a fleshed out arc and purpose within this game's msq compared to his friends. Which is kinda sad.

Its ok Nyelbert, Lammitt, Renda-Rae and Branden, at least you'll live on in the 1.0 and 2.0 marketing where they used to focus on having multiple stand-ins for the protag before SE decided to just focus on Ardb- uh I mean derplan- uh I mean METEOR. Yeah...Meteor...

Eh, it probably depends on which circles you travel in. Ardbert's the most popular, arguably, though I've met a decent amount of people who liked one or more of his companions as well.

I do think that Norvrandt would have benefitted from a little more time in the spotlight and a few more prominent characters native to the region. Of the many reasons why I'm tired of the Scions, having them accompany us to another world meant less room for new faces amidst the group. I would have had at least another one or two of the major Scions stay behind, personally, as well as establish a permanent means of travel between the First and the Source much sooner. Supposedly that's coming in due time, though, as part of the upcoming story arc.

Who's using weasel words now? Garlemald is framed as the stereotypical "evil empire that dominates those it thinks its lessers" which is a Final Fantasy staple. Multiple times has favoring this faction been stated to be wrong or immoral, and never once has anyone who claims to favor it ever stated why. I don't blame 'em, considering the results so far why bother inviting more misery upon oneself? Regardless, one could like Garlemald for its bloody fashion sense and be ridiculed for it here, but I've stopped caring as some on this Forum aren't open to discussing in good faith. Same with Ascian Rejoinings and the Great Sundering, but I'm not gonna pursue that thread again as I'm rather weary of debating morals with brick walls.

Second of all, what does any of this have to do with "genocide apologia"?

Third of all, I have flat out said that it's perfectly valid to like Garlemald because of its fashion sense and cool technology.

Fourth of all, I have never said that merely liking the faction is wrong or immoral.

Teledji plans few steps ahead in all previous things and nobody knew what he was doing until they were told about it since he always uses expendable pawns, until, at the moment of his triumph, he show his face and to start boasting like a moron, commiting suicide by poking an angry man with nothing left to lose for no discernible reason other than "plot needs this to happen". Dramatic? No, freaking stupid is the word.

But at least it proved it's a good thing for the writers that tugging peoples heartstrings is so pathetically easy.

I am probably the last person anyone wants to see throw my hat in the ring, but the core issue as I see it (having seen it pass from thread to thread at this point) seems to be separating statements saying “I would prefer the story to be x y and z” vs “the game should/needs/would be objectively better if the story was a, b and c.”

Now I would like to think that many of the those saying their just expressing their subjective opinion are right. But I just don’t believe that when comparisons are made to media that was lambasted for bad writing, as well as suggestions that don’t just say it would be better for the poster if they were adopted, but better overall. Hell the title of thread kind of gives that away, with the discussion framed as an “analysis.” It kind of undermines that whole idea this is a subjective take no?

That’s not to say there isn’t a place for objective criticism, but that comes with it an increased level of scrutiny, and anyone claiming such should be prepared to have others argue against that position. Arguing that criticism is silenced because of it is not only is ridiculous, it frankly advocates for the same kind of echo chamber many criticize the 14 community for having, just in the opposite direction.

What's your point exactly? Just because it's inspired by the Red Wedding doesn't mean it serves the same role in the story. Since, you know, the actual Red Wedding wasn't retconned just a few hours later by nonsensical story developments.
It's a shallow reference to the Red Wedding without the consequences.
