    FFXIV 4K Gaming Question

    Hey guys,

My wife's pc was hooked up to this cheap Sony led tv...that TV broke, so i purchased a TCL 43" Class 4-Series 4K UHD HDR Smart Google TV – 43S446-CA 4k tv.

I also upgraded her PC with the following components...

    ASUS Prime Z690M Motherboard
    I5 12600K 3.7ghz cpu
MSI RTX 3060 Gaming X GPU

When gaming now on 4k settings...the picture is not what i expected, and im only getting like 40FPS...ive downloaded all my drivers and tweaked all kinds of settings in the NVIDEA control panel and the game's dsplay/graphics settings.

My own game is right next to her's on an older 43'' Samsung tv, 1080p. My computer is much more powerful, with a ryzen9 5900x cpu and EVGA RTX 3080 FT3 and the quality and picture of my game looks BETTER than hers running 4k

My question is, are the specs on my wifes PC not good enough to run 4K in FFXIV?

I had been running FFXIV at 4K using an i7-6700K, a Z170 chipset, 16GB main memory, and a GTX 1080 for quite a while, and with somewhat turned-down in-game settings was seeing a nice-looking 55+ FPS on my GSYNC monitor in most cases. I recently upgraded the GTX 1080 to an RTX 3070, and now my FPS is a rock-solid 60 (which as fast as my old Predator 32" monitor will go) with all the eye candy on.

From what I've seen, FFXIV doesn't use a lot of GPU main memory, and if that's case, then unless you have less than 16GB main memory, I don't think hardware is the issue.

Thank you, i do have 16gigs in RAM. Yes.

Like on MY computer im getting like 220FPS...but again im not running 4k...

I guess im trying to find out what hardware I need or...settings i might need to change to get her to run FFXIV with like maximum settings...4k....with much higher FPS...

    Is 3060 suitable for 4K 60?
    I have a Ryzen 9 5950X , 32GB and RTX3090 and getting 4K 120+. I don't recall exact cause I use a 1440p monitor atm.

Is the TLC capable to display high FPS? Most cheap TV's are not. It’s most likely a 60 hz monitor.

Maybe it's the graphic card. RTX 3060 was created to be the best 1080p GPU around. But all GPU designed for 1080p struggle at 4K.
I use a humble GTX 1660 super and get around 36 fps on 4K only. So, I just keep playing on my 1080p monitor =/
For 4K I have to disable a lot of stuff inside game graphic configurations, so this is not a good experience.

About the difference on the visuals, maybe it's the configurations or the difference in the monitor's display technologies. Like, monitors with IPS display better colors than VA's monitors and better darker shadows. And some VA's display better white colors than IPSes...

So, I think what limits her fpses is the GPU she's using.

If you want, do a test changing the GPUs you two use to see if the fpses get better on 4K...
If the love is true, you will let her use your GPU for 4K u.u

This change could fix the problem since RTX 3080 definitely goes well on 4K.

Aye kupo <3 4k at high frames on high settings can take a toll unless you have a card with a focus on 4k. 3080 is probably best for high rates at 4k (nvidia line)

    kupo <3

that is not to say you can't game on a 3060 @ 4k you can but if you are experiencing frame rates that are subpar to your liking it is the card kupo <3 Guessing at 1080 you can just go gung ho with frame rates.

Also kupo <3 keep in mind the refresh rates on a tv vs. gaming monitor. That tv is 60hz so if you are used to playing on a 1080 that is higher you will notice a difference kupo <3

When using a tv with a 60 htz cap, use the Lock FPS to 60 setting in the graphics section. It really helps in those situations. Like others said, 3060's can do 4K, but not with max graphics. While TCL is nice, it won't have a gradient scaling that the Samsung has.

For many people, they may not need a 3080 for 4K on FFXIV, a 3070 may be fine.
On the other hand, some people may benefit from a 3090, as explained below:

First, data points: I run a 3070 with a very old CPU (an i7-6700K) and the frame rate is limited by the 60Hz max rate of my 4k monitor. it looks very nice.

My spouse runs that same 3070 with that same CPU (we have matched systems) but on a Samsung CGR9 49" UWQHD (5120 x 1440) monitor with a 120Hz max rate. That setup gets 110+ Hz frame rates. That monitor (on which the game looks AMAZING BTW) only has 89% of the pixels that a 4K monitor has, so maybe this indicates that on a 4K monitor with no frame rate limit, you'd get 100+ Hz.

    Is that enough? It depends.

100Hz looks substantially better than 60Hz: there is noticeably less "jerkiness" to movement, and it is easier to track/notice things while turning. Whether an even higher frame rate would be noticeably better depends a lot on the person.

Testing has shown that some people (military fighter pilots, for example) can benefit from frame rates as high as 300Hz, but not everyone has retinas/visual cortexes that are that fast.
