I don't like FFXIV's community

yeah. I think the most recent one that i can recall was that whole arthars situation, with the blm in there pf group.

The community is overstated way too often. Seriously the general community(although forums are the opposite) love to make this place out to be some sort of online utopia when in reality it's kind of average?

Something I really don't like though is how every little group on FFXIV seems to actually dislike each other. It'd be one thing if there was just rpers not being interested in raids or raiders not being interested in story or anything like that, but outside the forums, in discords and on reddit I often see people who will ask for the removal of stuff they're not interested in. There's no tolerance at all. It's not enough to just not interact with something.

This happens to every fanbase where the creators take dramatic shifts in later updates/entries or change focus.
Some cultists will insist this game always had the same focus since ARR but that's blatantly and laughably false. The game shifted in ARR, then shifted again in Shadowbringers, and depending on what aspects you look at, shifted again with Endwalker.
When you have people often worried the kind of content they care about will be affected by content they don't care about taking time and manpower from the dev team it says a lot about the producer being directly responsible for tearing their own player community apart into clashing groups.
You can see that in the Sonic fanbase, franchise notorious for trying to reinvent its wheel constantly even when critically panned, mainline Final Fantasy before and after they ditched the turn based combat, or even Zelda after Breath of the Wild.

I am of the opinion that the player community isn't being torn apart into clashing groups because of massive changes in game content. Instead, one must consider the fact that the player community itself is changing ... there are more Western players, more combat-centric players, and that difference in the player community may be responsible for any 'clashing' one comes across.

Would you be more specific in what you consider 'dramatic' shifts or changes in focus for this game? That will tell us to which of the many 'clashing' groups you may belong.

Have the story mechanics changed? Sure thing.

I, for one, am happy with the 'tag along NPC' mechanic, as it means I do not have to go back to where the quest began in order to finish a quest.

Did I enjoy the EW "put yourself in another's shoes" mechanics? It was definitely a mix. Thancred's took a few tries to figure out. The WoL mechanic in Garlemald was a bit too much of 'hunt and peck' looking for how to get out, but at the end it was simple enough once you knew what you were hunting. Do I believe it was a smashing success? Not really. If it could be skipped, I'm sure there are a lot of players who would write a heartfelt ありがとうございます to the developers if they provided that option.

The game shifted in ARR because it needed to do so to survive. I did not note any major shift in Shadowbringers, so please forward examples of what you consider changes worth of 'clashes' between community members. While you're at it, please add the aspects of the game that shifted again in Endwalker (with the same caveat).

Stares aggressively at sweeping healer changes and homogenization across the board, the absolute gutting of Scholar and Astrologian's kit instead of bringing WHM up to their level, DRK becoming Hot Topic WAR, complete removal of aggro management, BRD being stripped of most of its utility to make way for the new hotness that is DNC and promptly going from the most popular jobs to one of the least popular, and God knows what else I'm missing.

Can't be bothered to reply individually to people as I'm on mobile. My statements earlier in the thread had absolutely nothing to do with politeness in the first place (that was a strawman takedown made by a detractor), but simply the overbearing ToS in general. I am not asking for the right to say gamer words. I am asking for people to openly communicate without fear of the Iron Fist ToS dangling over them. Why do you think people don't chat in public? When every report made to a GM, they prioritize the reporter over the reportee? How can you prove intent over text? You can't.

I say all of this as somebody who has NEVER been given a strike, in ANY game, for any communications or gameplay. I've never trolled. I've never griefed. But I think that people should be able to sort such issues themselves without running to mom and dad GMs to sort it for them. Because they seem very eager to dish out strikes for things like SwEaR WoRdS, but you can have a ERP weirdo fetishist following you around for 6 months and they ignore every report lmfao. Or you can have bots literally destroying in-game economies, reports get ignored, but did you upload a picture with a damage meter in? INSTA BAN. It feels unnecessarily heavyhanded, in all of the wrong places. Just my opinion. No point replying to me because ima bout to duck out of this thread. Peace, have a great day everybody.

An example of the community being terrific in this game.

The other night I was on my main (V'aren Rhiki) trying to do the Kugane jumping tower for the first time. I was to put it mildly struggeling as I really suck at jumping puzzles. The first 2 hour session I had about 3 different people see me trying and come up to show me what way to go. At the end of 2 hours I was frustrated and embarrassed that I couldn't do it so I thanked them and logged off for awhile.

About midnight I went back determined to get it. after about 10 minutes another person came up trying to show me which way to go. Cheering me on. Patiently waiting when I failed and had to start back at a lower point. I hit my frustration + exhaustion limit about 2 hours later. I thanked him for trying to help and his kindness. He told me the first time it took him like a month of several hour sessions to do it and he finally found a particular video that showed him how.

In the morning I looked up the video. Watched it several times. Went and tried to do it again and got it in 3 tries.

The kind of patience and kindness I experienced is far above and beyond anything I have ever seen in any other game.

Ironically Reddit is better than these forums, which is not something I'd not normally say. That's how low these forums are, where REDDIT looks better.
