faction points?

I keep seeing some kind of faction reward from doing my levequests, but I can't find them in my inventory or any of my many, many menus. Where can I see how much I have, and is there anything I can spend it on?

You can spend them at the leve counter under faction leves i think it will also tell you how many faction credits you have there. It is very early content so alot of the rewards are outdated now but you can get some gill and fill out some of the achievements related to faction leves. Also templar gear and the jester gear(pretty sure that isnt the name) can be a reward in the ending chests of some of them.

Specifically, doing the "Special Mission" leves for the Brotherhood of the Broken Blade and Azeyma's Shield will take you up a chain of leves, culminating in a boss fight against a strong NM. This final mission has a chance to drop Allagan Runestones, which may be given to Rowena in Ul'dah for parts of three different sets. The missions and rewards are as follows:

Brotherhood of the Broken Blade Special Mission - Operation: Bloody Scales
Byregot: Templar's Coif
Menphina: Buccaneer's Boots
Nophica: Harlequin's Cap
Thaliak: Buccaneer's Sash

Brotherhood of the Broken Blade Special Mission - Operation: Wolfsbane
Azeyma: Buccaneer's Tricorne
Halone: Templar's Tassets
Llymlaen: Templar's Sollerets
Nymeia: Harlequin's Tights

Azeyma's Shield Special Mission - Wanted: Tarbh Uisge
Althyk: Buccaneer's Shirt
Nald'thal: Harlequin's Acton
Oschon: Harlequin's Belt
Rhalgr: Templar's Haubergeon

Also, the Horn and Hand faction also has a special mission, called "Poaching the Poacher". It's aimed at lower levels, and doesn't have any unique rewards as far as I know. Also, all three factions have leves for levels 20, 30, and 40, which function a lot like standard battlecraft leves (The Horn and Hand leves are all non-combat except for the Special Missions), except they offer MUCH higher rewards. Also, if you use the "leve evaluation" function, and the majority of your previous leves were faction leves, you will be offered another one for free (One of the standard ones, not a special mission leve). On top of this, the reward will be boosted even further. Using leve evaluation on faction leves is how people can get over 100,000 gil from a single leve for a lodestone history achievement.

wow that is super helpful guys thanks! I haven't played such a complicated MMO since FFXI, but I'm really getting into it.

Haha, it's an element of endgame, of course it's complicated! Until you hit level 50 though, you can amuse yourself with the lower level leves for bonus gil and items. I forgot to mention, the lower level ones are the only way to get parts of the Onion set. They also drop "tarnished" items, which can be synthed into higher level vintage items. Also, faction leves are deemed quite significant in the Lodestone history: Every time you finish one for the first time, you get a notification there.

Speaking of which, something amusing about leves in general: The game keeps track of every leve you've done at least once. When you've done a leve before, it'll have a red stamp on when you're looking over its information. Also, on a related note, for the faction leves that drop the rune stones? You only have to go up the chain once. Once you unlock the highest tier, you can do it over and over again, so long as you have points.
