I have never liked that statement. Many of them actually just prefer the feminine aesthetic, and many are closeted, so this is the "cool" thing to say. Although, it definitely is true for a certain % of male players.

agreed 100%
we always seem to have better fashion... although, that being said, most of them do prefer to have maximum slider settings and most skin showing

It's simple really. Most armor for male characters tends to be overly bulky and "manly", which, imo, looks awful. Female armor, tends to be less bulky and better looking.
Really the only reason.
And I don't think anyone who's ever seen me irl has ever thought "man that guy is so feminine" lol.
Jack Garland.
'' Grounded ''?
xD...
He's a pretty funny example tbh because he's a walking meme.
I sorta agree in the sense that more customization = good.
I mean I'd like more body customization too, for example I'd like Femroes to have hips and I'd like stuff like muscle tone slider on Elezen.
I really don't think that the Billboard '' scandal '' did anything at all tho.
Most people just laughed at it and those who were '' turned off by it '' I don't think had any interest in FFXIV to begin with.
The reason why with WoW for example I think their scandals have turned people away is because of the shere amount and seriousness of them, the billboard thing was just a funny meme.
Even one serious scandal isn't nearly enough to do actual damage it needs to reach a pretty bad repeated level for it to have any real effect.
In all honesty I think the existence of races like Lalafell does more to turn some people away than any billboard ever would.
Not saying that as a jab at Lalafell but in the grand scheme of things I think 99% of people just laughed at it while 1% of people who had already made their minds up just felt like their view was reinforced.
( Which is really dumb, to judge a game based on a player ingame event that no one has to attend to begin with. Not to mention some streamers did as a meme and actually had a lot of fun, Xenosys of all people for example did ).
There was quite a lot of demand for making Male Viera smaller than Female Viera and more effeminate.I remember really looking forward to making a more gruff male Viera when they came out, only to find that I was limited to about four different flavors of J-pop looking jailbait. Heroes in eastern media almost always tend to be younger, slender, or severely dehydrated shonen type characters. That's all well and good but some variety would be nice!
Then again I'm spoiled by Aion's character creator. You had sliders with numbers for almost everything. I'm not expecting black desert online tier customization but I'm sure everyone would enjoy not being a clone of roughly 1 out of every 4 or 5 other people.
It seem'd to be what most people asked for.
I dunno tho there's similar demand from some people that Female Hrothgar needs to be bigger than Male Hrothgar I just think it's silly.
Some people are just obsessed with '' breaking gender norms '' a bit too much imo.
Most important thing to me is that they look good and preferably have options.

I don't really know what relevance the billboard has here, but I will say I have a pretty good idea what turns a lot of players away, or stops many from trying. At least in the west. It's the aesthetic. Lalafell is more of a meme within the community, from outside of the community, I will see more disdain for miqo'te or "catgirls" actually. People call this a "weeb" game, etc. etc. So this thread has a lot of merits, in that a lot of players, and potential players, in the west, do want more handsome, masculine options for the game. They also want armor more in the style of WoW, or I should rephrase: bulky, "cool", etc..In all honesty I think the existence of races like Lalafell does more to turn some people away than any billboard ever would.

I felt like the new savage armor was more in line with WoW's armor themes. I wondered if it was something they decided to do for the influx of new WoW players. I don't mind the armor, but I hope we're not going in this direction full-time.I don't really know what relevance the billboard has here, but I will say I have a pretty good idea what turns a lot of players away, or stops many from trying. I don't personally like the really bulky stuff, from WoW. They look very cartoonish to me (that is kind of the WoW aesthetic though). I know a certain amount of other players really like that aesthetic, like I had been saying. Some players said that the last PvP season's armor set (Archfiend) looked like something from WoW, like the Lich King. Supposedly.
I personally think a male character looks a lot nicer in well designed sets, both fantastical, and more "realistic", but not overly ridiculous. I do have quite a bias. I prefer more masculine and good looking male characters, in nicely accented and designed armors for the most part. If I could do art, I know I would have a lot of ideas I could show. Heavily exaggerated just isn't my cup of tea.

go realistic and place more of the men and women that sit behind the monitor playing the game.
Got my vote to.
This seems a good opportunity to pitch my soul race.
They'd be all glowy like energy and instead of skin color you could change the energy color like standard glow white soul or black, purple, green and a lot of other colors.
Plus the hair would be all energy looking, they'd be a mix of the current hair choices but in a glowy soul form.
They'd have both Male & Female soul form which is pretty much shape of a male body and female body, plus they'd be small like lalas so we have another small race to choose.

Jack is probably the most generic FF character in the history of the franchise. And that says a lot. That aside, I'd love more options. They can never go wrong with having more options.
