Is ERP being done in public to such an extent that it warrants making a thread? Like honestly, I've seen enough cringe in my lifetime to be completely desensitized to some anime looking characters spam emotes at each other in suggestive ways while saying lines that would be corny by even amateur grand acting. as long as two or more people have a method of communicating in private then there will always be ERP since any attempts to automate any sort of filter will only end with people making up new words to evade it.

I don’t know why the player base is like this, or what about this game specifically attracts those individuals..

It's the catgirls (although generally these people tend to play au-ra from what I've seen...) and the general anime-adjacent aesthetic. We get the worst of the anime crowd, the MMO crowd, AND the general casual gamer crowd. It's like you're mixing a big soup of sexual repression and low social skills with a lot of self righteousness thrown in. It's why I love the community (because it is, undeniably, really fucking funny) but also why it's insufferable

You get that in Gridania? Gridania is where I go to get AWAY from that spam. If I have to hear "DJ" this or that one more time, I'm going to start asking SE to make fall damage lethal and put me out of my misery.

Yeah for whatever reason on diabolos a ton of people hang out in gridania. Chat has gotten pretty bad there recently. For so long my server had like no identity and now it's just... weird. Oh well.

Even in these lovely United States (excuse me all other Anglo-Sphere folk) the federal AoC is 16. ... I believe Japan even had an age of consent of 13 but there is A LOT more nuance to that.

US federal law only covers specific situations such as use of the United States Postal Service or interstate communication to persuade or entice a minor (under 18 individual) to be involved in a criminal sexual act, transporting a minor across state or international lines with the intent of engaging in criminal sexual acts in which a person can be charged, traveling in interstate or foreign commerce to engage in "illicit sexual conduct" with a minor (i.e. sex tourism) and pornography. Age of consent is otherwise handled at the state level wherein 31 states are at 16 years, 6 are at 17, and 13 are at 18 with a number of those states also having specific nuances rather than a specific blanket number.

Similarly, Japan's age of consent is only 13 on a "national" level via the Japanese Penal Code of 1907, in which it is effectively established as the minimum age of consent that any of prefectures and municipalities can go by. Simply going off of this however, ignores the Child Welfare Act of 1947, wherein a child is defined as any individual under the age of 18 and which further forbids acts of harlotry, fornication and other such obscenities with said individuals. Even further, there are local municipal and prefecture laws wherein the age of consent is generally bumped up to a range of 16-18, sometimes with caveats such as parental consent.
