Mount Farming and the 99 Totem Issue

OP is right. 99 is a bad number. 50 is better. Most people I know in the EX community never want to see a fight again after 90. But many - myself included - are happy to do up to 50 and then help out again later / hit it when needed.

Otherwise? We just wait for totem buy to be added.

I had started running Zodiark EX again. When I realized the buy wasn't up, I immediately stopped. My reasons were 3 fold:

1. DPS will be higher in 6.2 due to all having 610+ gear, making it faster
2. Echo will be added in 6.2, making it faster and easier.
3. Having a greater chance to get the mount means I can stop sooner if I get the drop via RNG.

The way the system is now; I'll at best run it for gear for some jobs, hoard my totems, then stop running it so I don't feel like I'm wasting time. Because that's exactly what it is.

Either have it release with the enhanced drop rate & purchase option (seriously why make us waste an inventory slot holding the totem), or reduce the token requirement. But the EX grind is always a slog.

Anyway, there hasn’t been a single defense out of anyone in this thread about why having the required number of totems set to 99 is a good thing. Arguments such as, “not everyone has to play like you do,” “it’s an MMO, it’s supposed to be a grind,” aren’t reasonable retorts to the main topic of this post. If you enjoy grinding and wasting your time doing the same mundane thing over and over, great. Doesn’t mean everyone else should have to suffer that nonsense.

I wanted the mounts, and I’ve grinded them out now, and I hated the entire process. Do i believe they should be handed out or that the drop rate should increase? No, I don’t. There needs to be some effort required of course. Should that effort be 99x totems? No. It shouldn’t. It should be 50. That number still requires a significant amount of time without the burnout.

There needs to be something else you can use the tokens for after you get the mount so you don't end up with a colossal amount of wasted time.

You can buy weapons to desynth in hopes of getting the crafting material. You probably wont with that luck but you can hope.

Waiting until the end of the expansion is basically the way to go if you're just trying to get the mounts. You can easily farm the ealier extremes with the increase in ilvl and by that point most mount drop rates will have been increased twice.

A rather counterproductive design but that's an entirely different discussion.

Most can infer just based on the title what this is going to be about, but after spending hours and hours with nothing to show for it, I needed to vent. The current system of acquiring 99 totems to purchase a mount from any of the EX trials is absolutely ridiculous and a clear indicator from SE that they do not care about your personal time. I am currently in the endgame right now and like every patch, once you complete the raids there is nothing to do except go back and try to acquire the things you missed in previous expansions, mounts being one of them.

Now I am fine with the PF and I understand that obtaining a mount from any of these EX trials is intended to be a rare reward. However, when you have ran it 50, 60, 70 times and continue to walk away empty handed while others get lucky enough to obtain it their first try, it diminishes the incentive to even try. What makes it worse, is that if you're someone who has consistent bad luck, then your only option is to do the same trial 99 times.... or 50 times for those that award 2x totems. This is ridiculous and whats worse is that it is a practice that is defended. Why does the totem count need to be 99? Why not 50? Why not something reasonable?

What makes it worse is that many players defend it, either because they acquired the mount early on, slogged through the trial 99 times and feel everyone else should suffer like they did, or just generally enjoy wasting away countless hours of their life on one instance. The gatekeeping by this game's community needs to stop. Not even having a FC fixed the issue because no one wants to help out with anything, or most FCs are filled with player bases that are still in the leveling process or just craft non-stop. (from my experience at least).

Make the damn totem requirement 50. At least then it becomes more bearable. Who cares if more people end up with the mount. Your time should be rewarded, not taken advantage of, cause you can never get it back.

tldr; mount drop rates suck! 99x totem requirement suck! Make it 50.

You could do Endsinger 50 times since she gives you 2 totems per clear and thank god for that, it's the only one I farmed all 99 totems.
And even tho it's half the effort, you still take your sweet time to farm those, clearing the fight 99 times is just insane to me.

clearing it once per week would get you the mount at the end of the year.

Its not meant to be rushed in 1 sitting

Surely at that point you wouldn't need and let someone in the party who has far less tomes a chance at getting it.

You can buy the weapons, if you have a high enough desynth level potentially get the crafting mats. Some are still worth a bit of money. Or just use for glams.

I'm rolling on it then using the extra to buy trade ins. There is no garuntee you will get the mount with the same party you will pass on until you're at 99. And even then, they can be redeemed for GC / desynth if you hold onto them.

It is nice if someone chooses to pass but you have no obligation to do so. Having spent more of your time does not mean you need to save someone else time.

If anyone is concerned about a lack Endsinger parties now, just wait until 6.2 like everyone else. The higher ilvl means faster clears and less chance of enrage, plus (slightly) more chance of mount drop. This is how it's been for years. People will continue to run these trials.
