For years these forums have been littered with the we need a lottery post. There have been probably over a hundred of them. Now you come here and see the exact opposite tone. I've literally seen a few of the same people who begged for a lottery now crying about it. So yes it's funny to see a complete 180 and no you don't need to "monitor" anyone to see threads that are plastered on the front page for all to see. Nice try though.

Actually, that would be entirely expected for a pretty simple reason. People are far more likely to come on to forums to complain about something they don't like.

People that wanted lotteries would have been coming on to complain to get them, now they have them they don't have as much reason to engage. People that don't like lotteries have reasons to be upset and so come on to the forums to complain about them. Two potentially entirely distinct groups that are being consolidated into one.


You'd also expect familiar faces because there will be people who realise that both acquisition methods are just bandaids on top of a system that is flawed and the actual issue

i would be careful of drawing such quick assumptions. I far, far prefer the lottery system even though that doesn't mean that I may (in fact have not yet) won. That doesn't mean that I consider it acceptable long-term, I agree that instanced housing would be fairer long-term.

I would hope that SE is able to pull the numbers of people that are applying and then use that as well as as the feedback from the community to justify the effort it would take to develop it.

I didn't say anyone finds it acceptable long term because it's clearly not. It's just what was asked for and now peopl see it's not all rainbows like they thought. There's only one long term solution really and that's instanced but they are hard against it because they want to keep the community feel which imo is silly especially when you still have single people owning entire wards. There's no community in that.

They finally cave and give you all exactly what you asked for, and now you realize you didn't actually want one after all and are pulling the classic kindergarten tantrum because now you want the old way back. This is exactly why they sometimes hesitate to give us what we want. Because people themselves don't even know what they want.

I am one of the people who vouch for instant housing. Its the only solution that will end this madness imo. But even then there are some who like community feel. So yes you're right about not being able to please everyone.

Did the majority of the playerbase ask for the lottery system - another band-aid to the limited ward housing system or a proper solution to address the supply problem?

Secondly, the lottery system was not meant to address the supply problem but to address the consequences of the limited ward housing system. The placard camping system before the lottery did not respect a player's time and incentivized botting/3rd party tools.

The sensible players know exactly what they want; a long-term scalable solution:
A proper housing system with enough supply so that every individual player can get a house.

A fully instanced housing system which is a viable alternative to the limited ward housing system. Examples of good fully instanced housing systems, are Rift and Wildstar.

SE has already demonstrated they're capable of fully instanced housing with Island Sanctuaries since every player will be getting a massive island for free.

SE can also improve apartments. Let us upgrade them for gil into condos/penthouses.

If Islands/Apartments were viable alternatives to housing and the minimum baseline for every player - the demand for limited ward housing would decrease.

Limited ward housing could then be something for players who want to compete for "exclusive/flex" houses.

Did you miss all the requests over the years for fully instanced housing?

I knew the lottery system would only be a bandaid for a larger problem. We need instanced housing. This housing system needs to be removed and replaced, and homeowners need to be refunded.
