You haven't heard of Sanctuary Islands?
Or are you just sure, without knowing the details of what Sanctuary Islands are, that they won't satisfy most of the unmet demand for "housing"?

I am certain that Island Sanctuaries will not fill the role of housing, since Yoshi-P has said at multiple live letters to temper your expectations and that it is explicitly not housing.

The issue isn't whether Sanctuaries are "housing," since apartments are housing and yet don't seem to satisfy the "unmet demand for 'housing'." (I put "housing" in quotes for a reason.)
The issue is, why do so many people desire "housing," and can Sanctuaries satisfy that desire?
So what, precisely, do you think Sanctuaries lack that would make them unable to do so?
Of course, some people hate SE so much, are so butt-hurt, that nothing will ever placate them.
Those people will never be part of any constructive conversation.

Apartments are not a substitute for housing features and there are going to be minimal housing features in the Island Sanctuaries, as stated by the developers in the live letter. The issue isn't whether Sanctuaries are "housing," since apartments are housing and yet don't seem to satisfy the "unmet demand for 'housing'." Let's get back on focus here, we're talking about the auto-demolition feature, not whatever grievance it is you're trying to air about the community in this unconstructive manner.
It's an easy fix that has been shown to add between 200-1,000 houses per server back to the market for active players to bid on, which goes a long way in dealing with the current squeeze on housing.

I absolutely agree, as is clear from my previous posts.Let's get back on focus here, we're talking about the auto-demolition feature ... Frankly, I'd be okay with never turning auto-recycling of housing plots off because of a real-world crisis. As long as they extend the demolition time when the servers are down, on a day-per-day basis, I'm fine with it.
Because even displaced members of the global 1% (i.e., the population from which most the player base is drawn) can find a laptop and an Internet connection, login to the game for 15 minutes, and visit their play-pretend house, if they really want to.
