Do not turn the demolition timer back on. Think of the Russian and Ukrainian players that will lose their house because of the current event. Do not turn it on please.

ROFLMAO!
Zepla has thousands of thirsty simps paying her sub. Her account was never in danger of lapsing.
Try again.
Yet she was not able to log in to play the game for several weeks after she and her fiancée fled the Ukraine. All they had with them was a few changes of clothing and their pets. It took a while for her to find temporary housing and get set back up to play the game. Being an American citizen also offered her advantages.
Without demolition being suspended, she might have lost her house in game because regardless of the state of her subscription, there was a long period that she could not log in to reset the demo timer.
What about those Ukrainian citizens that don't have the advantages that a Zepla has? What about other EU residents that have had their livelihoods removed or endangered because of industry and supply line disruptions caused by the war? Do we not care about them because they're not some hotshot FFXIV streamer?
What about all the people that have individual emergencies outside of this war that lose their houses?Yet she was not able to log in to play the game for several weeks after she and her fiancée fled the Ukraine. I lost my house last time auto-demolition was enabled because my mother was fighting cancer and passed away. At the time, I think it was fair because I was not using the house.
You can't make everyone happy.
I know, I brought that sort of thing up in my longer post detailing my feelings about demolition. What about all the people that have individual emergencies outside of this war that lose their houses?

No one should be going into a house purchase blind about the possibility of demolition if they stop playing for any reason. But in the end it's also SE's decision on whether they're going suspend the system or not.
Not refunding any of the purchase price made sense back when there were no purchase timers or relocation could bypass it. It was a way to keep resellers from making even more gil.Maybe we should be asking for Square to give some incentive to players to relinquish houses they are not using, first.
A lot of people buy houses and lose interest in them over time or they might have other more personal reasons for wanting to let a house go. If they own a medium or a large house, relinquishing means losing a big chunk of gil. I see a lot of houses on my server that don't seem to be used, maybe people are simply taking a break while auto-demolition is suspended, but if some of those houses could be released onto the market, it might help ease the present situation a little.
There are so many things happening in the world right now that starting auto-demoliton seems wrong to me. I'm sure most people who cannot play probably do have more important things to worry about, but I don't think that justifies taking things away from them in-game and making a bad situation even worse.
Now it no longer makes sense. Resellers can only transfer a house via FC control. Changing the system so those relinquishing a plot get the same 80% as those who lose their house to demolition might help. Those who want more than the 80% have the option to transfer to a new world when those are available.

"Adding 50 wards is temporary, so let's do something that'll be even more temporary."This is still a finite and fixed amount of houses and it would be only a temporary fix. Unless they move away from a fixed and finite amount of houses, the same problem will occur again and players who join in the future would not have access to houses.
If they maintain the same flawed and static system, at minimum auto demolition has to be re-enabled . It wouldn’t answer all the needs but it would allow some active players to get a house. I have a house now and I don’t give a damn about what would happen to it if I stop subbing for whatever reason and I think it’s fair that the plot can go to someone actively playing - it’s just a pixel house that has no use outside the game. Auto-demolition hasn’t been used for a long time now and I am pretty sure that there would be a good number of plots freed up by re-enabling it.
Auto-demolition isn't going to free nearly as many houses as you seem to think it will.
Who is Zepla? O.o

Auto-demolition is already in the game and has been thoroughly QA tested before. It's almost trivial to turn it back on as a temporary fix to the issue and would only take a short maintenance on housing areas for a few hours.
Turn back on Auto-demolition for now, add new worlds next month for the short term, start development on a long term fix for later, no long term fix is going to appear for the next 2+ years at least since nothing is on the roadmap till 7.0 and the instanced housing everyone says they want is a major feature that would need to be developed from the ground up.
A previous post in this same thread also showed that the last time it was turned on after Covid, there was between 200 to 1,000 houses freed up for sale per server. That's not insignificant and gives the people trying every single lottery a significant chance at getting a house.

You haven't heard of Sanctuary Islands?
Or are you just sure, without knowing the details of what Sanctuary Islands are, that they won't satisfy most of the unmet demand for "housing"?
