Glam challenge/request: Lvl 50 PLD “mage tank.”

I'd like to thank everyone that posted in this thread. I ended up discovering the perfect glam for my "mage tank," on the axis of his headcanon/other-universe existence as a "vampire," and threw together the vampire cape (didn't know it existed before), the Halicarnassus sword, emporer's new shield and claws of the beast to turn him into a gorgeous gothy rapier tank! Between the site suggestions and item suggestions in this thread, I now have an excellent concept for my "archmage alt" to tank in!

Hello again glamour experts and enthusiasts! This forum recently provided me with some wonderful answers to my inquiry requesting “Jian glams” for a blade dancer alt of mine, and now I have a new challenge for you!

A bit of backstory: when I first discovered FFXIV in the 2.0 era, I was adamant that I should only ever have one character, and so I used an “Archmage” OC from my roster of reusable characters, under the idea that “it’s all aether manipulation” which I classified as magic. You see, I love tanking, so I needed someone that could conceptually be all forms of magi and also tank, and at the time the most magical tank was Paladin, so he sat at 50 Paladin once I left the game, still in the ARR era.

Fast forward to now, and I have 6 characters: one Omnijob with a job agnostic glam, and five alts made specifically to get the most out of duty support (trusts on their own as a system brought me back to FFXIV in ShB) and to wear all the artifact gear that my main will never wear.

My Archmage is now approaching level 50 in all the casting classes, (all the alts are parked waiting for Heavensward duty support) and is still sitting at 50 Paladin. All my other alts center their concept around the tank job I’ve allocated to them. My “blade dancer” I mentioned in my other thread is allocated to being my pure Paladin.

…But I’d still like my Archmage to have a tanking spec, for pushing the MSQ and killing trial queues.

So that brings me to my request: How would you dress a “mage tank Paladin” at level 50 within the following parameters:

-again, gear must be level 50 or lower
-weapon doesn’t *necessarily* need a matching shield, as I’m likely getting the emporer’s new shield again
-Reasonably accessible at 50 by a level 50 without crazy crack content… unless a friend could desync something with me. I do have access to such a person.
-A rapier might be nice to play off the fact that he also uses a rapier as a red mage

There are a lot of options that will unlock as I level, of course, but the fun with these alts is in the journey, so I’d like something to start him off in. I’m thinking of defaulting to the wild rose garb, but I’m open to other suggestions, mostly for weapons! I’d love to pick your imaginative brains for things I may not have thought of!

Also, feel free to recommend “down the road” later level items if they are reasonably accessible. Again, this is a very casually focused alt!

Wild Rose is a decent option, and I think the Halicarnassus sword from the Gold Saucer would match it – that's the closest thing PLD gets to a rapier.

The level 1 Astral Silk robe is another option, or for something more armoured you could go for the High Allagan coat (which is based on Doga's outfit in the CT arc and he seems to actually be a mage).

Headgear-wise you can make use of the mage circlets (since they're usually all-class equippable) and some tank exclusives including the Qarn circlet (silver with black gem), Crown of Light from the Labyrinth, or the High Allagan circlet.

Also, if you haven't already, I suggest checking out the glamour website Eorzea Collection (not my site but I spend a lot of time there) and joining the Discord group. Discord is good for glamour assistance because it's easier to post pictures of the suggested pieces.

When you say 'mage tank' as far as glamour goes, are you leaning more towards "a magician that happens to wield a sword", or "an armoured warrior that can throw spells around"? Because GLA/PLD's normal appearence is already the later anyway so I assume you're more leaning towards the former. In which case unfortunately there is a bit of a lack of outright robe attire available for non-mage classes other than the robe Iscah mentioned, although the Sophist's gear gained during EW's story could suffice (especially if you're wanting to RP your character as

Azem

reborn or something like that). It's level 1 glam gear too and dyeable.

Another alternative is either Urianger's or Papalymo's original outfits from the Mogstation - Papalymo's is especially good for a 'tank mage' given he wore tank sabatons and gauntlets with his robe, alas they're not dyeable.

As for weapons though, again as I mentioned in your earlier thread GLA arms tend to be restricted to European style long swords, short swords and broadswords or cutlasses and scimitars, or else outlandish and exotic fantasy blades, with basically no rapiers. The closest to a rapier for GLA/PLD I know of is the Sword of Light from Seat of Sacrifice EX, or the Diamond Sword from Omega Sigmascape part 4 EX, and both are higher level than 50 (Sword of Light is level 80, Diamond Sword is level 70). The Halicarnassus Sword from Gold Saucer might be a good alternative though (as that's level 1 glam gear).

Looks good. Don't be scared of Gpose though – you don't need to do anything fancy, but just having the camera angle freed up from pivoting around the character and the ability to add a light source is a big help. And pausing during action animations can produce some really cool poses.

Even when I'm not taking screenshots, I find Gpose really useful just for getting a better look at my character when building glamours sometimes.
