you can always tell it’s fake if it asks you for your OTP along with your username / pass. all official XIV sites take you to another page to verify (if you have one)

also i get emails like this as well often when new things are added to the store. it was probably an error due to converting currencies

Either a fail or a marketing tactic. They get you excited and clicking on the shop page ready to grab a deal on a desirable item, then you get disappointed, then potentially you say "eh, screw it why not" and buy it anyway so you don't leave feeling disappointed.

More likely an error, but they're a business so not impossible.

Sounds like they could be drawing their prices from the wrong listings, or it's a manual input and they forgot to update it from the previous email which would have been Lyse's outfit (10.50) and... some kind of seasonal item for 1.40?

Got it aswell, normal email from Square. They send these every now and then. Especially during friend returns and so on. Same address

I honestly don't think it's a fake. I've been getting advertising e-mails from Square-Enix for years. I'm on their mailing list.
I feel like it's probably a typo. But if they're advertising it for that price, surely they have to honour it?

Lol nah, if anything they'll just send an apology email with the corrected prices. There would be far too much of a backlash from people who have already bought it or didn't get the email for them to honor anything.

That's fantastic for you, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say most people probably don't wait 25+ seconds before entering in their OTP, and so for most people, the OST would be useless if they fell for one of those phishing links.
