Of all the scions ( and honestly like literally any one NPC, save for emet & tsuyu imo ) we should not be worried about building a better Alphinaud.

I forget the First exists most of the time, tbh.
Crystarium was a non-republic before. Not sure what they are now. Eulmore is the only real republic on the First. The Viis, Ondo, Dwarves, and Il Mheg all seem to be variations of monarchy or chiefdom. I also forgot about the Indigo Deep on the Source, which was a monarchy and will probably be one again once they have a new queen. Then there's the Gnath which are a... thing... and their supreme ruler is still kicking.

Eulmore's Vauthry-era government was processing unwanted residents into Soylent Beige and feeding them to the others. Vauthry had no heirs, to all evidence, and the current situation was obviously not sustainable. We don't actually know what their political situation is enough to say it's now a full republic - if Chai-Nuzz has to specify that he doesn't intend to be mayor for life, that sounds like what is technically known as an elective monarchy(!!!), where people vote in a leader and then they stay for life.
I honestly don't remember what the Crystarium's political situation is supposed to be now that the Exarch's gone, but given that G'raha's from Sharlayan, pushing them towards some sort of representative democracy (like what he grew up with) makes total sense.

It is not the copium it is the hopium. Is important so listen.Originally Posted by Raven2014

Let us teach correct way. You see the movie be release with the character you do not like? Example: we do not like the Super Man but there is new movie to be release. Do we keep silence and not watch movie. Wrong. We must write the angry letter to the producer asking them to release the Super Man movie about the Iron Man instead because we like the Iron Man better. This is the same.
Final Fantasy 14 story is written about the Scion at start. This keep happening for the 10 year time. We do not like the Scion or the story or the game but we still pay the money sub. We expect the story to stop being about the Scion but it still not happen. Is strange. So we write the many letter on the forum to get the story direction fix to the one write by the lackluster story writers guild with God Meteo who sacrifice the Loprabbits at end of story to get revenge on the evil God Hydelyn. Soon the Hildabrand story will also be write second time to fix for the relic quest. Will now use the style of Game of the Thrones with the blood shed. Is important for suspence.
There are many of the character that the player must like better than the twin. Character like the God King Varis or the Scottish Fordola or the Mad King Theod of the Al Amigos or the Stranger Knight Jack Garland. These are all the character with the rugged look but not too rugged to make player feel threat. It is the Twitter crowd and the forum paladin who try to enforce the gender fluid attack tech of Omega twins.
World like the democracy but the fiction world should have the diversity so we player can elect type of govern that we want. If we are in the Limsa we should be able to elect the King for Limsa instead of the Minister Merlywerble. If we are in the Gridania we should be able to elect the Dictatorship for Gridania instead of the Seed eaters (I forget the name). This is part of the player choice.

And who is this "We" you're referring to? I'm sure there is more of you, but the copium part here is it seems you want to believe your "we" is the majority without any kind of evidence like you admitted yourself. There are another "we" who enjoy it.
Also I think people seem to mix up something here. If you simply want to say "ok it has been a great ride but we would like something new" I would agree with you. I want to see some new cast taking the spotlight too with the current scion taking the backstage for now. But that's not because the last 10 years is bad, or people the scions story are annoying. For an MMO, FF14 had delivered the most well developed cast of NPC bar none. No other MMO ever since the genre was created has come remotely close in term of story telling, narrative, or character developments. And yes, I'm bolding the MMO for a reason, I hope I don't have to explain what that reason is.
It's ok to say you like something, and want something new at the same time. But these days I feel like it's almost a rule that people are obligated to talk down something in order to say they like something else.

FFXIV wants to now appeal to the single player crowd so I will hold it to the standard of other single player rpgs. Its cast of npcs is found wanting.

I had exactly the same thoughts about Sylvanus Windrunner in World of Warcraft ... from the time she became "War Chief" of the Horde. Doesn't mean that the developers of that game have to listen to me, mind you (and they didn't).
You either enjoy the story or stop paying money for it. I chose to abandon WoW. This one is fine. I'm one of those people who actually enjoy the Scions.
You want something different? There's always fan fiction, although that is best posted on AO3, rather than in the forums.

Because goodness forbid that feedback is actually listened to so that people don't get pushed out of the games they like.

Found wanting by who? Are there more people who dislike that Alphinaud doesn't physically hit people, than there are people who like having a male character who has power without being physically strong? Because if the NPC setup is "found wanting" by ten people, but fifteen people love it, then it is actually a good business idea to keep this NPC setup.
(Estinien is over six feet tall and repeatedly talks about how his primary role on the team is to hit people real hard. Thancred has never done anything but physical combat, and G'raha, who's got some decent muscle on him when you see his arms, started as an archer and can tank just fine in Trusts. So it's not like there are no physically strong men in the group. But Alphinaud's "politically oriented support/healer class" character type is more commonly female, and I like seeing a male version.)
