Crafters and Gatherers need their own inventory

I recently started crafting and as you all know, this requires a lot of materials that can end up filling our inventories really fast, wouldn't it be great if crafters and gatherer's could have a separate inventory so that we don't have to be checking out retainers/chocobo saddlebag for the items?

A separate bag for fish baits would be nice too.

A lot of things could've been moved to the key items inventory, so much empty space and so far only 4 things use 4 slots in my inventory.

It's like armoire chest, it's there to tease you about things you think you can store, but instead get bamboozled.

fishers definitely need something, i dont like having to carry around 600 different types of bait and tackle all the time

    1) You really don't need to stock more than what you're dealing with at that exact moment of crafting. Same thing with bait honestly. Also, you do have retainers with heaps of storage.
    2) The key item inventory doesn't work like that; it's visually the same in game, but it's actually more of a checklist of "If PlayerHasItem:HuntBill1_1=1;" then it shows up in the Key Items space.
    3) If you didn't know, you can have up to 16 retainers for the same price as a normal account, as you can have 8 characters on 1 server- the only thing you have to do is pay for 3 months at a time instead of monthly. This doesn't even take into account the amount of inventory this "mule" character has. The amount of space available to you for minimal effort/no extra cost is extremely generous.

I'm heavy into crafting and gathering but I think the fairest idea is make any new inventory available to all and then we can determine what we want to do with it. I love the tradeskill inventory in ESO. But I would feel bad here with how limited inventory increases are to leave out others who also have need of the space.

An ESO / GW2 like system would be epic. IF you could craft from this inventory.... O_O;; Sweet baby kupo nuts that'd be amazing.

One thing to note is specialized inventory can be far more optimized than standard inventory, so I don't think it's entirely fair to suggest they're one and the same either or type thing. Given known and specific inputs you can optimize in a way you cannot really do for dynamic slot based system, so a crafter inventory could very easily take up less system resources than just plain inventory.

For Fisher I honestly feel like they could make the baits a new type of gameplay progression unlock, and then combine all bait into a couple.. or just one. For example you might gain fishing lore for collecting a variety of fish, and meeting certain conditions unlock certain types of bait which are clearly organized and labeled and as you increase in fishing lore might become even more clearly labeled into the log (like viewing a fish will just be like "I LIKE FROG LEGS"). Fishing lore concept can be a general thing or could be literal and specific to zones / world spaces and water bodies (like Thanalan fresh water different than Shroud fresh water), if going into micro details you might also have if you have Y and X specific lore or a net total of Z lore you unlock "J" lure- so you could have fairly complex power from a few variables of lore. If SE finds it is important to have consumables still for fisher, for market reasons or whatever, there could be a generic aetherial bait the fisher uses. Special bait might consume more aetherial bait per cast, normal bait consuming normal amounts, and then the no consumption lures that require perhaps more lore to unlock than normal / specialized baits.

The problem when you think about crafting systems like GW2 for FFXIV is that a lot of the crafting materials exist to justify the need of an entire crafting/gathering job system. Moreover, a lot of items within are just unnecessary bloat. For example, many metals have chain, plate and bolts are all ultimately made from ingots, when the ingots alone should suffice (a la Guildwars).

I mean, sure, ultimately it might work to have a banked inventory for this and that, but then it becomes easy to say “well we need this kind of storage for things like Gordon’s bolts/springs, or rathalos scales or fireworks” when honestly the player should just throw away whatever they aren’t using.

For me, I don’t see this as entirely bad, but I would want to know how much bloat it would cause to servers and at what cost.

I have three retainers dedicated to crafting material. All of them nearly full. It would be nice if the amount of materials required to make certain crafts didn't need so many different individual materials. :/

Ever since they added the "Search for Recipes using this item" thing, I've thrown out quite a few materials that are only ever used to make something I will never need to craft.

Crafting and gathering takes some serious organization, but there's really only so much you need at any given time, especially as you level up. It's gotten a lot better since HQ harvests went away. There's no need to really hold anything, except maybe some time restricted goods. I keep mostly top tier stuff in my saddlebag so it's handy. I have two retainers. One has bait and some foods. The other is holding a lot of other goods as I work down the crafting log.

Fishing: Every region has a bait vendor nearby. There's really no need to keep a ton of bait handy. You never need it outside the tier you're fishing in. If you're working through the log, just go through a few at a time. Stick to a region / expansion. There aren't even that many useful fish. One of my retainers is a fisher, though I seldom send them out for fish.

A new inventory just isn't likely at this stage of the game. Special inventories pop up from time to time but those are exclusive to one area or another (Deep Dungeon, Bozja, Eureka, probably Island Sanctuary). Unfortunately, you have to buy more space if you feel you really need it.
