There arent supposed to be emotional responses from the businesses side, that's just plain unprofessional. Maybe the stifling work culture in japan means they have thinner skin than us in the west, who knows. All I know is that it isnt our responsibility to cater our responses for the sake of someones emotions we're never gonna meet. They either take the feedback and act on it, or they ignore it and create more feedback. And it seems they routinely choose the latter. The ToS is so heavyhanded, this is a problem they themselves have partially created. I've never seen a fanbase so on edge and passive aggressive, and there's a reason for that. (Hint, it's nothing to do with the fans).

There was another mmo a decade ago, where the forums were a constant back and forth between "white knights" and "complainers" and very little feedback was looked upon. That was wow. Now look at wow. Not exactly in a good way is it? I apologise for not wanting to see XIV go the same way
Firmly agreed.

I've always found the insistence that people need to treat the development team like they're close friends to be pretty weird. It's not how I go about conducting business with a corporation. A small, independent local business that I frequent weekly and find myself on first name terms with the employees? Sure - but even then, their goal is to make money first and foremost.

Even polite feedback towards FFXIV is brushed aside these days because elements of the community itself treat absolutely any criticism whatsoever as some sort of personal attack.

In reality, some people are just more brash or blunt than others...and if they're not breaching the terms of service then there's no real need for other posters to take it upon themselves to police tone or content of someone else's posts.

Especially since I very rarely see the people doing it towards 'negative' feedback take issue with those who swoop in and start directly insulting anyone providing criticism towards the game as a 'hater' or worse.

It's very likely that we wouldn't even have the missing genders for viera and hrothgar if not for the negative feedback. So there's certainly merit to the idea of applying tactical pressure as a paying customer.
