Thin Air does seem very underwhelming compared to its previous iteration, but it doesn't necessarily require an entirely new mechanic to make it more useful. I don't really think that the oGCD trait is really relevant to its primary usage as an MP management/recovery ability, but perhaps changing it to reduce the MP cost of the next two spells would make it slightly better (4 MP-free GCDs every 120s compared to the 4.8 in ShB).

Maybe you could even use the ability on another party member, making it have more support utility.
