This /\I think, if we're talking about ShB, that's it not so much about wanting anyone to die, but how much the scions kept "flirting" with death while not actually dying. So many situations would have been certain death for anyone else, but they have such a strong plot armor and are basically mary sues at this point. Y'shtola and Thancred more than the rest, honestly. It's hard to take a character seriously under those circumstances. And at this point we know that whatever they go through they will never ever really die, so it kills any sort of tension. Even EW with its "all my friends sacrificed themselves""just bring them back". We just know that nothing bad will ever happen to them, no matter what they go through. Which I guess for many it can be a relief, but for others makes them less believable.
me and my friends make a bet every new expansion: in how many quests will Yshtola "die"? How many times will a Scion be kidnapped?
I advise you to do this, it's a lot of fun
