Hildibrand for relic? Really?

it's lazy to reuse an existing questline for something like a relic

except they aren't "reusing" an existing questline any more than they "reused" the ivalice raids to get you into bozja, or how they decided with shadowbringers to "reuse" the crystal tower questline to lead into shadowbringers. its a prerequisite to a new questline to do the old stuff that came before it and if you like hildibrand you will most likely have great fun with it, if not than yea, sorry for you but you will survive, just like i survived bozja (or the ivalice raids for that matter, both just absolutely don't interest me and my life went on fine)

My issue with this decision is the lack of world building. I work for a living so I know it's pretty sweet to reuse things to make an existing job easier but it does feel a bit cheap that instead of new lore or a questline that fleshes out the world we get told, "Do this existing questline if you want a relic". I thought they were making a relic quest line, not a prerequisite to pad out time like they were making another beast tribe quest. Why fight it at this point, I just wish the devs would do something so erroneous that it will finally chase me off, lol.

But Hildibrand is only there to unlock it. We have absolutely no idea how much world building will be done...after all Bozja did not stop its world building with Ivalice either...

I thought the choice of tying the relic to the Hildibrand quests was quite a polarizing choice. But holy damn, this is one of those contents I'm not aware it has more of its fair share of (for the lack of better words) haters.

I remember trying to like the questline, but the 2.1 to 2.55 quests burnt me out real quick. I started skipping from HW and onward. Come 6.1 patch few months ago, I actually tried to 'like it' again. I read the dialogues and watched all the cutscenes (plus point for the improved animation, it makes the experience more enjoyable). Quite possibly one of the cringiest moment I ever had from XIV gameplay. Not that I hate it, but if I'm asked to stomach something alike for the rest of major patches especially when it's related to relic weapons.. I don't know anymore lol.

I'll go on record and say I didn't do ShB relics either because unlocking bozja was painful.

Whether you liked or disliked Ivalice, Eureka, Hildi, Bozja, or whatever. Doesn't matter.

Putting one piece of content over another as "more valid" than any other in order to make your is asinine and cowardly.

The gripes of a person being forced to do Ivalice and a person being forced to do Hildibrand... they're the same. Doesn't matter what you or me think of the content.

So obviously a friend and I have been having a pretty serious discussion about this very topic and we arrived at "We both like relic grinds so we will still do it but will the people who think they are getting more Hildibrand be happy when the inevitable first long grind step comes up." Several of the people I am seeing rejoice in Legendary Manderville Weapons stopped Bozja due to the amount of required items needed at points for steps and honestly to me Bozja was probably the easiest relic in the game if you could get through CLL. I am just not really sure anyone truly wins here. People who want more Hildibrand will be expecting that story but I am not sure they are anticipating the first "Go collect 30 Emil Heads from Nier/Go do 60 Fates" step that happens. Meanwhile the people who want a relic grind may just be skipping cutscenes to get what they want, their grindy content over an expansion.

I will be very interested to see how it all plays out.

Why do those people have to be mutually exclusive? I love Hildy. I'm not bothered by relic grinds. My main concern would be if Hildy gets locked behind relic steps in case I needed to stop because they do something like Eureka again after all, but I find that unlikely since Hildy has always been its own thing. And that makes me think even more than we won't have more than a cameo at best from him, and this will focus more about Godbert and other characters we meet in the Hildy line. Because otherwise the relic line would need to stay in step with what's going on in Hildy and right now (given what just happened in the latest entry) that would be rather difficult without making them linked.

I get the sense it will be like this as well. I remember some commentary on Hildi when it was skipped in Shadowbringers, like they did so because it was always the same old thing. Just look at the name of the series "Somehow further..." It sounds like they figured out a way to please fans and perhaps tie things up for a while, as well as do something a little different for relics (and Godbert / Gerolt).
