Maybe it's because I am a person that likes patterns and structure, but I like the way the combat plays especially in high-end content where you can actually plan things out and perfect it and it becomes almost like clockwork.
I like the combo system a lot too, it doesn't feel like you're aimless spamming a button or auto-attacking and waiting for a resource.
Every button you press has a direct and logical purpose and there's quite a lot of different ways to express skill.

I've been picking up BLM again and am getting into Advanced BLM and it's pretty fun to learn about.
But yeah the combat doesn't feel as random as a lot of other MMO's do.
It feels like I am in much more control of what's happening.
I can definitely agree with most of that. I enjoy identifying and mastering patterns as well. I think it's something that makes me so good at stealth games. There's a satisfaction in going into a piece of content that used to kick your behind and walking through the dance steps effortlessly.

But sometimes it feels a little too regimented. I find myself longing for some of the randomness in those other games. It's funny, but I think most times I feel "alive" the most when with others in XIV is when I'm putting 10 fires out at once or fights do unexpected things. I adore how Omega turns around and Nald'Thal switches sides. You have to keep your eye on that. I think I enjoy patterns most when I'm doing something alone.
