People have already mentioned stuff but honestly I just enjoy playing it lol, simple as that.
And also that I don't feel forced to do anything.
In a lot of other games ( whether MMO or not ) it feels like the game is forcing me into certain activities on a daily basis.
I like that I can just choose to do whatever in FFXIV and not feel like I am wasting my time because I '' should '' be doing some daily or something.
All of those lockouts are rly quick anyway too.

For example recently I started working on another Eureka and also Bozja Relic glam weapon, and I am doing PoTD for fun.
I don't feel like I am making any sacrifices and that I am gimping my character and pushing my progress back because I am choosing to do these things.

Same with the Savage and Extreme fights I just enjoy doing them and I can jump in and do them whenever I want, the game respects my time a lot and I think that's honestly quite important.
I think a lot of people spend a lot of time playing other games and don't realize how bored they are actually playing it because the repeated daily content to stay relevant gives them that sense of progress but they're not enjoying it at all.
If I am doing some kind of a grind in FFXIV it's entirely because I choose to do it and not because it's necessary for my character to stay relevant.

This is one of those things that could be elaborated into a short novel, or summed up in a sentence. If I was to try something in between, then I would just say that there is always something enjoyable and disappointing to find within the world of FFXIV.

    Oh, and Spriggans.

I've played a lot of MMOs over 20+ years. This is the one where the story was relevant and essential. Other MMOs might have a story arc in an expansion or even some loose threads going from expansion to expansion, but this the only one where story takes front and center. I greatly enjoy that aspect. I enjoy that I can have alts, but I don't have to because I can be all classes on a single character. I always make a beeline to the tradeskills in MMOs and while I think here it's a bit overly reliant on macros, I still enjoy the process. I just don't use macros. The music is fantastic. The visuals, even on my edging on potato PC, are breathtaking in many places. And one thing I appreciate the most is the theme park design. I *can* go do X or Y, or I can choose not to, or I can do it later. So if I don't want to play that night or do this given activity that night, I don't have to. This may not suit some, but for me who has felt tied to games and felt compelled to play in the past, this game is a breath of fresh air.

Another thing too is the combat system for me.
Maybe it's because I am a person that likes patterns and structure, but I like the way the combat plays especially in high-end content where you can actually plan things out and perfect it and it becomes almost like clockwork.
I like the combo system a lot too, it doesn't feel like you're aimless spamming a button or auto-attacking and waiting for a resource.
Every button you press has a direct and logical purpose and there's quite a lot of different ways to express skill.

I've been picking up BLM again and am getting into Advanced BLM and it's pretty fun to learn about.
But yeah the combat doesn't feel as random as a lot of other MMO's do.
It feels like I am in much more control of what's happening.

FFXIV is one of the few current games that appeals to me in terms of genre, production values, and aesthetics. I don't think FF14 is particularly great, but the rest of the gaming landscape is so utterly barren, FF14 is all I've got. At this point it's either playing old games, or doing something else besides playing games.

How easy it is for me to cancel my sub for 4 months now and play other things while I wait on new content to be released.

I can definitely agree with most of that. I enjoy identifying and mastering patterns as well. I think it's something that makes me so good at stealth games. There's a satisfaction in going into a piece of content that used to kick your behind and walking through the dance steps effortlessly.

But sometimes it feels a little too regimented. I find myself longing for some of the randomness in those other games. It's funny, but I think most times I feel "alive" the most when with others in XIV is when I'm putting 10 fires out at once or fights do unexpected things. I adore how Omega turns around and Nald'Thal switches sides. You have to keep your eye on that. I think I enjoy patterns most when I'm doing something alone.

I have this issue too, I feel like most games nowadays are completely soulless.
Gaming has just become too corporatized and it feels like they're made by people who aren't really passionate about gaming but just got a degree and treat it solely like a job and nothing more.
As well as marketing departments sticking their nose into things trying to maximize profits.
Especially in AAA, games are basically made to not directly appeal to anyone.
But the blandness also makes them turn few people away too.

I love my character and the story was an immense joy to play through.

I love the music and dungeon mechanics.

I love playing Summoner and White Mage, my go-to classes since 2014.

I love that the game has tons of casual content given most of us are nearly a decade older with responsibilities outside the game.

I love that I can multi class and don’t need new alts to try out different classes.
