This tells you it's a problem in the Sydney area. As others have posted the NBN is reporting network interruptions due to flooding and they are having difficulty getting the network back online, this isn't a Square/FF14 issue, it's a Sydney telco issue. Nothing we can do but wait until internet services get fixed in Sydney.
I'm getting the same issue trying to login to Oce servers, I tried the usual things, resetting network adapter etc and nothing helped, and it's been going on for many hours now. I can login to the JP servers though, so you seem to be right on this one.
SE could have the courtesy of at least acknowledging the issue, but it seems Oceania is a second class datacentre. 9 hours of this isn't good enough.

that's interesting, as I use the NBN in Sydney and nothing else is having issues at all. NBN isn't down, Oceana is.
The WHOLE NBN isn't down, I'm typing this now using the NBN, contrary to popular belief just because the internet is a distributed network it doesn't mean it works like some all pervasive cloud of magic nanites, nor is it one giant block, there are still nodes and segments that attach the bits to each other. Just because you can access the main junctions to get to Youtube in the US doesn't mean the FF14 Sydney datacentre isn't relying on an NBN hub that is currently underwater.
Plus some people are still getting on to Materia using VPN, the servers are there and working, it's just our connection that is being blocked somewhere along that pathway.
Quote from the NBN Twitter for your convenience:
"Severe weather in New South Wales has impacted some nbn® services across Sydney Metro, Illawarra, Shoalhaven, Hunter, Mid-north coast and Northern Tablelands. Most of the impacts are caused by power outages, and some network infrastructure has been damaged by floodwater."

Are you suggesting Square Enix staff should be out at NBN sites manning the pumps alongside the SES?

No, but square enix could put a post up on lodestone acknowledging there is an issue that is out of their controlThe WHOLE NBN isn't down, I'm typing this now using the NBN, contrary to popular belief just because the internet is a distributed network it doesn't mean it works like some all pervasive cloud of magic nanites, nor is it one giant block, there are still nodes and segments that attach the bits to each other. I'm stuck in same boat.
Need to use a VPN though Western Australia (Perth) to connect to Materia DC currently.
Seems to only be affecting connections from eastern states.
