July 4th 24 hr Maintenance

Don't they do maintenance on different days for different servers? It kind of feels like they hate a good chunk of their NA population. Doing anything between July 1st and 4th for NA servers is kinda of dumb.

SE always (with a few exceptions) has their patch maintenance end on a Tuesday. This means that 24hr ones will start early Monday. It\\'s just how they operate. They aren\\'t gonna move around their preplanned maintenance days because some other country has a holiday that day.

I have to disagree. As someone who works in IT and on international projects we absolutely take local holidays into consideration when planning maintenance. That SE doesn't is hubris. They simply take the players for granted. We don't matter.

I can't be bothered to actually do the math but i would be curious to know how many tuesdays a year would be without any interference of onecountry's national holliday.
Worst part these would change each year.

It's a shame there aren't days of the week other than Tuesdays.

They only do server-specific maintenance for small things, not for patch releases such as this. Patch releases get released on the same day for all servers.

Actually when I think about it, then it makes sense. Patch releases need to be universal or else one set of servers could be upset over not getting new content at the same time as another server.

I would tend to agree there. My company is also international and those things have to be taken into consideration.

The one thing I can give SE is that they're consistent. They only let their own holidays affect their patch schedule. So it does suck and it does feel a bit like they don't consider all the regions they operate in, but at least everyone else besides the Japanese get to have it suck equally.

If it's a holiday isn't that a good excuse to go out and celebrate? Go to a restaurant, meet up with friends, venture out for a bit of hiking or a run through the forest?

If we had those, many of us wouldnt be playing games on a holiday!!

This is SE and FFXIV.
This isn't IT and wherever you may work. This is a different company and they operate differently.
Typically they do Patches on a Monday so that Tuesday it will be done along with their weekly reset.

This is how they operated for a Decade, its not 'Taking the Players for Granted' its consistency in how they run the game.
Sorry its happening on an American Holiday, but for real, shouldn't you be out celebrating? FFXIV isn't going anywhere

The real question is what are they even doing that they need to take the servers down for a full 24 hours. Can't think of any other game with downtimes that long...
