    Well... there is a good number of threads that are trying exactly this instead of asking for old SMN back. The fact is that current SMN, while good aesthetically, it lacks the core mechanics that the previous one had. It's too restrictive with its spells while offering nothing to build up during it's rotation (if we can call it a rotation to begin with...). They tried to make the choice of summons matter but when they make most of the spell insta casts this fall short of any meaning of decision making.
    Current SMN need a lot of revisions to make it more flexible and give it actual mechanics.

No more ridiculous talk of bringing back Bio and Miasma or Ruin Stacking please.

    This is one of many things that could have happened instead of trying to force dots and trances to work at any cost for the past decade.

    And we still would be playing legos with 6 blocks instead of 3. Also having our 60 seconds CD burst given for free regardless of what we do during the gem summons is pretty much stupid.
    Dots were pretty much automatic with Tri-disaster during ShB. They would probably remove it this expansion one way or another. But Ruin stacks or something similar building up during gem summons to buff our burst phase is something I would really like to have on current SMN.

    No they are not bringing back ruin stacking and honestly speaking if 6 gem summons with *unique* astral flow mechanics each are not enough then I start to wonder where the limit actually lies for you. In terms of something to build up to, especially for higher level gameplay, how about a gauge to fill (faster when doing the casted summons, slower when doing the instant ones) by executing astral flow abilities that culminates in being able to choose between Alexander or Odin depending on the situation at hand.

    Ideally, this would have been where the job stood by Shadowbringers at the very least. "Light and Dark" expansion would have been the perfect time for the primals of light and darkness to be added to the job, with Alexander naturally being the heavier damage summon at the cost of cast timers and Odin being the swifter yet weaker one.

(we were quite a bit behind JP on launch so this is similar to basically 1.0 combat)

    we also could have alot of pets on our person at once and swap freely between them so it's not that big of a stretch to just make them forced summons for set periods especially since we only get like 3 abilities with each summon regardless

    My limit is having flexibility with the basic spells (having casted and insta cast spells both at our disposal). Not being capped by a number of gems stacks per summon to use these basic spells but instead having a actual timer on each summon where we're free to use them. More oGCD abilities coming out from the summons during these windows instead of the SMN using them directly (I want to command my summons to execute them) and having a proper burst phase where we build up something during gem summons.
    You see, I want flexibility and room for growth within the job skill set with a proper learning curve. Those are things that current SMN definitely lack and should've already been here with this rework. So, right now, it's just an unfinished rework that needs a lot revisions imo.

    the issue is you cannot command summons anymore you get a one time attack or an auto rotation (bahamut phoenix) and thats it. cause they couldn't fix ghosting or AI (which is all people wanted really not an entire ducking rework). it's why i suggested PSO2s pet combat where you essentially have a snappy movement start casting the pet jumps onto the enemy and sticks on the enemy until you change targets or recall them/replace them with another summon. you could even take this a step furhter by having the summons themselves have cast bars for certain abilities allowing you the summoner to do an extra instant cast while they're building up their cast bar

    i think that whats gets me the most. You are not summoning anymore, its more of channeling now.
