Unusually High Ping on Steam?

Unlike yesterday, I am actually able to log in to FFXIV today (I'm a Steam user) but getting an unusually high ping avg. between 100-180ms, when I usually get a consistent 48ms.

Just wondering if any other Steam users here are noticing an usually high ping?

I have higher latency but I don't think it's because of steam, rather in my case it's because of SE's ISP, NTT.

Previous node is 1/3 of what follows, and the faulting node for me is ae-3.r24.snjsca04.us.bb.gin.ntt.net which nearly triples my latency. I could use a VPN to ignore it for now but I'll wait it out. Asking an ISP to fix it is usually a futile effort.

tl;dr Problem is a node in California, not much you can do aside from wait or use a VPN.

How do you check that? That it's SE's ISP?

I just trace my route to the servers usually, there's a few programs that graph out your connection like winmtr, or pingplotter. IPs can be gotten either looking carefully in resource manager in windows, or on some websites like arrstatus.com

Ye it's bad. I suspect the NTT nodes are at it again (for the fourth time this year).

Interestingly enough the usual tracert route fails to receive any response this time from any of the NTT nodes in CA as opposed to the usual ~200ms responses I get from them during these issues. Wonder if this is related to the issue or if they stopped those nodes from being pinged.

SE could put some pressure on NTT to fix it, since they are NTT's paying customer, but it seems like no one from SE actually reads this forum.

Yeah I just logged in and noticed everyone jumping around.

Opened up PingPlotter and very high pings and packet loss within the NTT network once again.

Game is unplayable right now. Just tried to do an S-Rank and I literally couldn't even cast spells.



Edit: You can see in this graph exactly what time this all started. It was about 3:20pm EST.

I think it might be a node issue, because I'm on PS5 and I am experiencing some varying lag spikes. 1-2 second delay on GCDs and OGCDs and interacting with things, and it's in Primal DC. Doesn't matter if I'm in a crowded area or just hanging out at a residential ward, same results for me. I'm also using ethernet and it's very fast, and have not seen any lag on other online games.

By any chance, how many people here are using ATT? Reddit thread makes me ask this question (a recent one). Seems to be a common thread.

Might be an issue between ATT and NTT.
