    Roleplay, question and advice request.

Hello, everyone I'm sorry for the stupid question but... I just joined final fantasy 14 and I want to roleplay as a pirate captain, (or ex pirate captain) either one that works.

First question is that okay and wouldn't be frowned upon, I'm asking because i really love the free and charming aspect of Pirates.

My second question: what classes would be the best for a pirate?

Finally my third question any advice on designing my character so it doesn't conflict with the lore?

Thank you in advance for your reply's, it will be big help developing my dream for roleplay.

Roleplay shaming is unacceptable behavior. Whoever does it to you should face the terrifying might of the middle finger raised in front of their face!

this is an MMORPG while some unimaginary types might frown upon those who RP ingame there are still plenty who do it there are those who even eRP ingame so just do your thing and have fun

i would say machinist is probably best for playing a pirate, they get to use pistols and they also get to equip the level 50 kirimu outfit which makes you look like a pirate (the revolver of the wanderer weapon goes nicely with that outfit although the weapon has to be unlock via wolf marks)

Excalibur is not a very RP heavy server but you should be able to find people to RP with if you want. Don't force other people to do it with you and you should be fine.

Anything can be a pirate, Warrior is fine.

The lore is really flexible, just talk to the NPCs in Limsa.

    Welcome to Eorzea!

Don't feel bad about your choice of role-play! In fact, your idea is well and truly in keeping with the lore - Limsa Lominsa is a nation of pirates after all, and the free-spirited life and transient nature of an adventurer goes well with that.

Lore wise MRD are meant to be pirates (or the discipline at least derived from piracy), due a quirky bit of lore that states Eorzea's pirates "prefer the visceral feel" of hitting people with a great axe rather than just shooting them with a gun pragmatically (yes it makes them sound bloodthirsty, but there you are). There was meant to be a gun using pirate class as well (Musketeer, or MSK for short), but it was never implemented into the game, instead the gun using class that was implemented later is MCH which is unlocked when you get to Ishgard.

So it is completely lore correct to be a MRD/WAR that is a pirate, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

Warrior/Machinist may be the two classes that fit the best if going for the pirate theme. I know my server of Balmung is heavy into the RP aspect but there are also people who don't RP like myself. The latter group of people being in the minority. You would feel at home there.

Also check the community page on FFXIV if looking for an RP FC or even a Linkshell. You'll find RP groups in just about any server.

The best class from the ones you can select at the beginning is marauder (axe wielder) which starts in the somewhat-reformed pirate city.

Once you can pick up additional classes at level 10, you'll also get access to the dagger-wielding rogue class. (Unfortunately from a pirate-RP perspective, rogue shifts away from the theme later and morphs into ninja, but you can still dress like a pirate if you want.)

Meanwhile, machinist isn't a really piratey job beyond the basic "has a gun". It's more steampunky and they do a lot of flips and spins while fighting.

Another option once you're further into the game is red mage, which fights with a rapier, though also a lot of spellcasting.

Now that I think about if...if you want one Tank, one DPS, and one healer to fit the Pirate theme...perhaps Astrologian? Ships needed people to read the stars to navigate so it KINDA fits the theme.
