    Surprise! Keybinds not job specific?

I finally got SUM, my second DPS job to 90, and rearranged some of my keybindings to fit it's unique ability groupings. It worked well, until I switched back to NIN, and I find that several of my most-used actions were now unbound.

It seems to me that key bindings should be unique to each job.
This definitely reduces the appeal if leveling new jobs, since I'll have to put up with imperfect keybind setups for all but my main.

(For crafting and gathering, I just click the actions, since there's no need for speed.

Only hotbars are job specific. I've never heard of keybinds being job specific anywhere. Not sure where you got the idea they would be.

This is likely the first game he's played that allows for multiple jobs on the same character.

Most other MMO's save the different keybinds on a character basis, and thus a class/job basis. So in WoW, GW2, SWTOR, TERA, ect. You can have completely different keybinds for each of your classes/jobs.

That's probably where he's getting the confusion.

Yep. Same with everyone else. You just have to fiddle around with it until you find something that works for all jobs.

Ie. Putting all jobs AoE's on the same button. Putting all job gauge abilities on the same button. All damage reductions or heals on the same button. All movement abilities ect.. Some jobs won't work as well as others, but it's the best we can do.

The workaround is to have the actions you want shared tied to one of the hotbars that themselves can also be shared. You can actually set which hotbars are shared across all classes under Character Configuration > Hotbar Settings > Sharing. The default is that Hotbars 9 and 10 are shared, leaving 1-8 to be unique for each class.

I have sprint bound to the S key (I don't use WASD so this works for me.) Sprint lives permanently on Hotbar 10 in slot 6. Hotbar 10 is shared across all classes, and it's the one hotbar I keep visible at all times. Hotbar 10 slot 6 is what is technically bound to the S key, but because that hotbar never changes, it is effectively a permanent binding of sprint.

Other ones that live on the perma hotbar 10 include summoning and withdrawing the battle companion, limit break, materia extraction, mount roulette, and my Oh Snap Mechanics macro for alliance raid.

Nope. Only HUD set-ups can be multiple.

You can put certain actions on your invisible hotbars and keybind to those hotbar buttons.

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

I really fail to see the issue here. My keybinds are all different on each class. And I got two two bars dedicated to be the same on all classes (sprint, mounts universal actions etc).

You know you can set the hotbars to be different for each class right?
