Sometimes I wonder if a player with a certain name is the same player with a different name whom I have previously met before. What I want to know is : Is it possible to use a player character's name which was previously used by another player character whom has been deleted now or has had a name change?

Yes a name can be reused if a character has been deleted or has been transferred to another world. There is not normally any waiting time on when the name can be reused.

That being said, if you're transferring a character from another world this may warn you that the name is in use and you may have to change it. The transfer system isn't completely up to date, but if the character has been deleted then the warning can be ignored and the transfer with that name still works.

Someone should probably also note that no matter what you change your name to or what server/DC you transfer to your lodestone page will always have the same link.

if your doing a character transfer best to make a new character on the server you want and see if the name you want is taken if it is not then you can delete that alt after the transfer goes through

I can only see this being a problem if you have a very unimaginative name...Like Squall Strife or Cloud Leonhart. The fact people can have a fantasy First and Last name makes it extremely difficult if not nearly impossible to share the same exact First and Last name...down to the letter.

However if you move to a server with your current name...you get to name change for free. I believe the moment a character is deleted or transferred...that name is immediately available.

That's a rather handy trick for getting a free name change when moving! Although do all accounts now include free alts? If not, it still may be cheaper to get an alt for a month vs paying the $10 for a name change (no clue what the actual pricing is so I could be totally wrong ...).

The free name change would only be available if transferring to a world where that name is already taken. If you transfer to a world where the current name isn't taken...then you will need to buy a name change as well.
