Which is better overall?

6 GCD = Midare (using the 2 GCD AOE skills + 2 button Yukikaze + Hakaze)
or
8 GCD = Midare (the normal rotation?)

One seems like it's faster and still gains the buffs, and thus you execute Midare quicker and build-up meditates for Shoha faster, but the other is single target centric and thus does do the intended damage before Midare is executed, but again it seems like its slower to build up Shoha. What do you pros do?

Do you mean as opener? When you open on a target, you want to be using Meikyo Shisui, into Kasha/Gekko, it will grant you your buffs instantly.

After the opener, on single target, 8GCD is better. To give you an idea, Hakaze is already worth almost 2 AOE combos in potency, and the 3rd hit of your single target combo deals almost twice as much damage as a 2hit AOE combo in one GCD. Shoha potency isn't high enough to compensate for that. So single target abilities are much superior for single target.

If you want to go more in depth:
-If there are only 2 enemies, 6 GCD is slightly better, but you should still be using your single target spenders (Midare Setsugekka, Hissatsu: Senei, Hissatsu: Guren). Also, if there are only 2 enemies, Meikyo Shisui charges are better spent on Gekko and Kasha rather than the AOE abilities. And consider applying your Higanbana DoT on both targets if you know they'll stay alive for the duration of the debuff!
-If there are 3 enemies or more, 4 GCD is better (omit the Yukikaze + Hakaze), and everything is better spent on AOE abilities.

A few more Midare spams with AoE skills that have less potencies then your single target Skills will not net you a positive damage output if your goal is single target DPS. Even if we had our original Midare before Square made Midare flaccid since 6.1.

When I was coping even harder then I am now... I did try some stupid things

• Like Midare Spam through AOE combo
• Max SkS Samurai
• Maximum Gyoten casts in P3S
• Maximum Yaten-Enpi casts in P2S

I have yet to figure out maximum Oka casts I can do jumping from the highest point before landing because I don't know the highest point in the game...

But! if you really want to know if the meme combo is better? you should " NOT use 3rd party tools, how dare you! " and go to " Stone Sky Sea " cause seeing is believing. There you challenge the striking dummy and time it on how fast you kill it or not even kill it.
