Melee are fine, I play range
-Plays ranged. Sadfaces on the crystal before being stunblivioned.-
Melee are in a great spot in CC. I'll let you know when I die as melee in frontlines before I give an opinion on that.

Grass is always greener, dude.Spent over 2 days playing in platinum and its official.... I dont care what anyone says from here on out i am speaking from countless hours of experience through this nearly impossible grind....reapers have to work to EXPONENTIALLY harder than everyone else to be viable. Literally watching other jobs cake walk in these matches. Ive played many pvp games and can i say with utmost confidence this mess is not an even playing field not even close. Also ive maybe seen 1 or 2 reapers TOPS in the last 50 matches in platinum/diamond. Seeing the same 6-7 jobs over and over its not a coincidence....
Same but currently at diamond and i stand extremely firm on all previous points. Our margin for error is extremely low and if we do not play near perfect we will lose more often than most.

Good luck! You can do it. I've yet to see many reapers. I saw about 7, then a bunch of dancers and the rest have been your usual PLD, WHM, BLM, SMN, MCH and MNK a lot of monks all of a sudden. :^)
MNK is generally seen as the strongest melee. Tanky, shields can provide a surprising amount of teamplay (6k shields with 10 sec charge timers vs TBN being 8k on 15 sec... MNK shields are pretty good), and a guaranteed 36k damage hit that also stuns the target and breaks guard on a 60 sec charge is... kind of good? You should be seeing plenty of them. You tend to see SAM and DRG a lot in lower tiers, though, because they tend to be very effective at crushing people that don't know what they're doing. DRG is still effective at high skill, though limited in ways that other melee aren't. SAM... I dunno, you rarely see SAM in high skill unless they're just dedicated to the class. It can't really do anything that other classes aren't better at.
