Main quest "A Breath of Respite" Lv78 refers to player character "he" when female

    Date & Time: 2022-06-17 19:38 JST
    Frequency: Always
    World name: Excalibur
    Character name: Neolajr Arolin@Excalibur
    Retainer name: N/A
    NPC name: Zenos
    Monster name: N/A
    Class/Level: Lv79 White Mage
    Party or solo: Solo
    In-game time: No setting
    Area and coordinates: Kholusia ( 18.6 , 17.6 ) Z: 3.5
    Housing: N/A
    Steps:
    1. Begin the main story quest "A Breath of Respite" Lv78
    2. Progress with the quest up to the dialogue in the Imperial Palace.
    3. Zenos refers to the player character as "he" instead of "she" when the character is female.
Please confirm if this "he" is referring to the player character or someone else.

    Details:
I have done a search of the bug reports for the keyword "A Breath of Respite" which returned many hits, but was not able to quickly identify a previously submitted bug report.

Lv78 main quest "A Breath of Respite"
In the following dialog it is unclear if "he" is referring to the Warrior of Light (Darkness).
If "he" refers to the Warrior of Light (Darkness) then it did not take into account the gender of the player's character.
On a female character "he" is said in the cut scene instead of "she."
Since it can be vague at times who "he" and "she" refers to, would anyone be able to confirm if in this case "he" is the player's character?

Possible mistake in text (as a female character):
[19:38]Zenos: 'Tis unthinkable that he should supplant us, incomplete as he is. Such a devolution is abhorrent. And it must be stopped─before it is too late.

Corrected sentance (as a female character):
[19:38]Zenos: 'Tis unthinkable that she should supplant us, incomplete as she is. Such a devolution is abhorrent. And it must be stopped─before it is too late.

The following is where the dialoge is located in the cutscene to more easily locate it.
[19:36]Zenos: This presents an opportunity. If we can defeat the Alliance prior to the Scions' return, we may eliminate their order at a stroke.
[19:37]Zenos: And with the Scions gone, none shall remain to thwart our plans. It will be but a matter of striking down the hero upon her homecoming.
[19:37]Zenos: Which, lest you forget, is essential to the realization of our objective. Of both of our objectives.
[19:37]Zenos: Through Hydaelyn's meddling, Her champions threaten to wrest the reins of fate from our grasp. The world is at risk of being dragged down the false path.
[19:37]Zenos: One which will never see man reclaim his true form.
[19:38]Zenos: 'Tis unthinkable that he should supplant us, incomplete as he is. Such a devolution is abhorrent. And it must be stopped─before it is too late.
[19:38]Zenos: The hour is come, Your Radiance. Order your armies to march once more. Crush all who stand in your way.

Sorry if this bug report is in error and thank you for the consideration in reviewing the above bug report.

I believe "he" in this context is in regards to the statement above: "The world is at risk of being dragged down the false path. One which may never see man reclaim his true form". The unthinkable is that man should supplant them, as man is incomplete.

Thank you for the quick reply, yes this makes sense and I believe you are correct.

I might argue that "he" should be replaced with "man" to make it more clear but pronouns are so unclear at times. Ever hear about the "pronoun game" in movies where we never find out who "he" or "she" is until later?
In the case of those movies it is to build suspense, but toys with the audience.

In this case, it is not the intent but thank you for the clarification!

I am replaying the story line in full on a new character, yes we have a "new game plus" feature which I think is wonderful, but for me it just isn't the same as starting a new character from scratch.
This gives me an opportunity to, for lack of a better term, "test" everything again also and bring up anything that appears odd during game play.
One thing I noticed is the gracious amount of EXP given now, it is enough to level two, if not more, jobs from level 70 to 80 in the process.

It seems the "stat quash" has led to some things being easier than I remember, I would always click off a buff that gives auto HP regen that might also grant increased defense and attack (called "A Heros..." something, forgot) but it is impossible to complete the solo duties without it. I have tried it and was promptly KOed to some unavoidable mechanics or left at too low of HP to sustain the next attack.
This buff was not the result of the "stat squish" but has been applied since day zero (confirmed on youtube videos from 2019) although its effects may have been adjusted. I wonder why it is able to be cancelled (right clicked off) then.

The battles with Ran'jit (some of my favorite) are still very satisfying, and can still be very close calls for new players not accustomed to stacked mechanics and keeping track of what will go off first.

Of course I am completing only the bare minimum necessary to progress, including all 4 "blue quests" for aether currents (flying unlock) in each zone.

This may be marked as "resolved/not a bug" and thank you for the consideration!
