If you're worried about your electric bill, can't you just log out yourself then turn off your PC?
Why should SE be worrying about people's electricity bill?
Take some responsibility yourself. SE has other things to be doing.

How about you make your pc go to sleep if your afk for too long? that would close FFXIV and stop your pc from using up power.
Problem fix without SE saying wait for 2.0

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together Autographed By "Akihiko Yoshida Tarot Card Sweepstakes Winner
This sadly, is not a sarcastic post:
One of the big things in FFXI was getting jeunopose/whitegatepose gear, such as m. body on PLD or AF2 on a wide variety of jobs. In addition the Rolanberry Fields/Batallia Downs (depending on your server) bazaars were an important aspect of the endgame to many people.
I can already see this mindset has continued into XIV, on Balmung I regularly see in battle pose, people AFK with subpar gear solely because it's from Garuda and looks cool.
That's why this feature would be fine, but it would HAVE to be optional. It would save a very little on your electric bill I believe since your PC would use a tad less power.
If you find my post sarcastic, please just respect it and try to respond as such. It truly is legit and myself and many of the people I know and used to know did play FFXI for gear to AFK in. It was also important to those of us not interested in it for jeunopose because it kept old timers with the top gear such as defending rings around for longer.
Auto log is something I can get behind, mainly because these afk players tend to park themselves in high density areas for long periods of time 1+ hours. Not to mention they take up space on the search feature no one uses. (supposedly)
It seems foolish that players with lesser computers should have to suffer slowdown due to 50+ Mary Sue's needing to afk at any given time.
People pay for their characters and have every right to keep them logged on for every picosecond the servers are up. If you want to, you know, not spend money on your electric bill by logging off your character, I think.... logging off your character could work.
Now, I wouldn't be opposed to an autolog feature like in FFXI, which had different choices (KEY WORD: choices) for idle times until the game would shut down by itself. You also had the choice to turn it off altogether. That'd be fine by me.
Hilarious responses
I found it funny that people actually being butthurt bout their privilege
Anyway, I will update my first post with this inputs
The amount of energy saved by hardware being able to enter power saving mode is way too underestimated. A good example would be a gaming laptop lasting over 9 hours when idling vs 1-2 hours when running at max load. That over 4 times more energy used and yes, it is the same for desktop PCs.Really the cost of your electric bill is (in regard to pc usage) is relative to the hardware that you use and the power it requires. It def varies from player to player based on specs. Even tho the game requires a decent gaming setup/hardware i dont think that much savings can be reflected with such an implentation of idea. On the whole, itd save a few dollars altogether each year if implemented and if anything would just be a hinderence to those who go afk and leave the game on. For the aforementioned reasons, i really dont feel its be worth it.
Power saving should not be a motivation for implementing auto-logout though. If people want to waste their money, let them.
Congestion is another thing though. And since most people only use bazaar for storing items, I don't see why they shouldn't implement it in the cities (where most people idle)

That's a sensitive matter in Japan you know. So yes they should worry about it and I think it's a great idea if it can be configured by the player.
Bonus: Add an auto GPU limitation feature that would cap the frame rate at 5~7fps while being AFK for an extended period of time. I personally lower my framerate cap at 30fps when I don't need to do anything gameplay related. It saves power, especially with power hungry GPU (hi2u GTX580).
If you just want to leave your character online overnight, framerate doesn't matter.
Antipika.
