    Suggestion: Mentor Overhall

The Mentor System, right now, is a joke. In theory it's an amazing system to aid sprouts in understanding the game better since there is truly a vast amount of stuff to know, even down to simple option tweaks that can be overwhelming at first.

In practice, however, the Novice Network itself has become a real joke. Tradecraft Mentor is so easy to get just to have that "crown" and "power" to kick people.

I would like to propose that an overhall be brought to the Mentor Program. I truly believe every Server's Novice Network should be properly governed by a Community Manager. This Community Manager should be able to appoint proven Mentors to a higher rank of Mentor that has certain authorities while a Community Manager is not around. (Clearly staring at a chat all day will send someone crazy.)

I personally, take pride in my Mentorship status as I aim to actually assist those who need help. In many ways, sprouts are one of few reasons I keep subbing. I want to see them get as much, if not more, enjoyment out of this game as I have. However this community can REALLY sully that feeling. Especially those who are "supposed to be mentoring" decide to just have a crown as social status and do jack-all.

I've moved Data Centers just to get away from horrible Novice Networks. I've been playing for almost 9 years since 2.0's Beta. I actually really care about this game's community and would really like to see this particular part of the Community improved upon. Because this will NOT fix itself by just letting players govern each other. Retaliation is a real thing. There are many walks of life and there needs to be a Community Manager that truly puts time and effort into the Mentorship Program as well as the Novice Network, itself.

Having played from Heavensward on up to current day, I can attest that a lot of times the NN is rather rowdy and while some people do indeed get help when they ask for it, a lot of times the NN can be swayed more into way off topic discussions, rampant abuse of power, and lots of kicking sprees from retaliation kicks when people don't like a reason that some one else was kicked. A reform of the system to give the NN better management and accountability would go a long way.

So I must add... I've been hunting around for OFFICIAL Terms of Use for the Novice Network and even for being a Mentor and representing the community as a Volunteer... and I can't find ANY Official Terms of Use for either.

It would probably be a good idea of something official was properly written up. Just a thought.

When I heard about the Novice Network I was interested, but then friends had said not to bother since now it really isn't used for what it was meant for. It does seem to be something that has been forgotten. Some sort of revamp could be beneficial for new players.
