    I own a gtx260 and playing normal//high settings(mostly normal) with 34-40+ fps steady.
Seems fine for me. If I ever save enough money up I will defiantly upgrade to top notch.

the gtx460, which is easily OC'd without making the card suffer can play the game really well on high graphics.

you can play on 1920x1080 with 2xAA, draw distance at 8&5, standard shadows & high textures and without DoF and the only graphic lag you'll notice is in high populated areas (adv. guild is the best example), but still staying above 25 FPS.
that were my settings during OB, and currently the game runs ALOT better then during OB with less loading on the screen thanks to reduced character load and multiple servers controling high populated servers.

of course, anyone who has the money tho, go for the most expensive.
there must be a reason for the price i guess, lol.
if i had the money i'd probably run some quad sli shit myself haha.
Lol well since there is a recall on my Sandy Bridge motherboard, I am going to get the p67A-u7 by paying the difference when I turn in my old board. I may try to throw in a third GTX 570 if I do that. That is as far as I can go though on a Sandy Bridge motherboard, not enough bandwidth I believe.

Anyhow, what I'm saying is that the 590 is too much both in power and price, not to mention that dualgpu cards are known for micro stuttering and with the way the GPU market goes you'll end up saving money if you got a 570 now (more than enough to play almost any game on max on 1900x1200) and maybe get a 2nd a few months later for 75% of its current price.

For average gamers a 150-230$ card will almost always deliver the power you need to play on high, but if you got money to spare and a bigger monitor or more than one, or if you're like me (Once I build a pc it'll use the same parts until I retire it and get a new one) go for it.

Another argument against the 590, at least for a while, is that you have to pay a premium price just because it is Nvidia's current top end card.

Yeah you're right. Some people like shiny things I guess, and some people have more sense.

I have my 2600k running at 4.8ghz on my two 570's SLI I get full 99% out of both does that make sense?

Well your cards are not bottlenecked

Do you run any extreme settings like general drawing quality at 10, ambient occlusion or display resolutions beyond 1920x1200 to max out 2 570's ?

Well I run the game on 1920X1080 10 draw quality rest maxed, AO and DOF off, and SLI 64X AA I am still playing around with it. I get 60 frames most of time not in uldah or crystals. I can 99% both cards sometimes no depending on whats going on in game and weather im in fullscreen or not. Keep in mind the SLI profile I use is not meant for FFXIV someone Macgyver'd it. It is probably a crysis profile or something. Im sure things will get better when SE decided to optimize the CPU issues or NVIDIA make a proper profile. Atm I dont know who's to blame probably both. You will notice when running around uldah its your CPU taking the beating though and not as much the card. Or both maybe.

Well with that said I just realized I get the same performance when I put 3D on.. so that may mean there is room for improvement because I should be taking a hit at that point and I dont.

Its probably the drawing at 10 making the biggest factor but yeah i agree the whole CPU/GPU/SLI scaling relations in this game are messed up at the moment. Correct me if i'm wrong but doesn't enabling SLI-based Anti-Aliasing only improve image quality but not performance over single GPU rendering since both cards render the same frames and merge them for the AA effect ? Maybe try it vs. conventional AA modes.
