They're a reality of game development.

I often see people flip the hell out when it's revealed that game devs for a game have re-used the skeleton for a model too.
This is why most game devs won't take non-devs opinions and views seriously on this, if you think this is a problem and somehow a new thing or in any way says anything about the FFXIV devs then you clearly don't know a single thing and have absolutely no insight about game development.

The gear appearance imo I can kinda understand a little, but it's not much of it we're talking about a handful.

My issue isnt necessarily with assets being reused, but the scale of the reuse. Take the last boss of vanaspati as a random example. it's half of one thing (first amaurot boss) and half of another (alte roite from o1). It's absolutely everywhere. I shouldnt be able to look at a boss or mob and work out exactly which spare parts its constructed from. It seems to me the problem is lack of funding from upper SE management. They milk the absolute most they can out of the game, and invest the absolute minimum. I imagine the devs have no choice but to cut these corners to meet deadlines and stuff. Which I suppose is to be expected from a company, but it's still frustrating if you want to see the game do well.

Yeah, it's not like the game's been recycling models from previous games since Legacy, right?

The problem isnt reuse, its , how badly you notice it sometimes... just some new paint would already help on some cases lol

This is actually not true in the slightest. Half of the armor sets were reused, the other half were new. The lvl 81 and 87 dungeons both use recolors of previous gear sets while the 83 and 85 dungeons have new models. This has been the norm for the most part since at least StB where two dungeon sets are recolors. In StB the 61 and 67 dungeon sets are recolors with the 63, 65, and 69 dungeon sets were new. This is the main difference, which we lost a new set in ShB where the 71, 77, and 79 sets were all reused while only the 73 and 75 dungeon sets were new. Rather than reuse another model which would be instantly completely replaced by AF gear in a single level, they opted this time to just get our AF sets at 89. The only time leveling dungeons had all unique sets was HW, and we got spoiled by that. Now one could argue that we've completely lost new models for crafted gear while leveling and they would be correct on that, which is a bit sad.

As for the point of the topic. As others have said, reusing models of mobs and gear is a staple of gaming and even MMOs. ESO, Guild Wars 1 and 2, WoW, Everquest. All of them have reused mobs and gear set appearances. This is the first time I've ever actually seen such an uproar over it. And before someone points out that SE is a large company and can afford it. So is Blizzard. In fact Blizzard is a bigger more profitable company and they don't have the ability to dye their gear, let alone even glam their seasonal gear outside of the season and they still blatantly reuse and abuse assets.

I think the armor reuse complaints are a little narrow-minded -- most of the reused armor pieces were not dyeable in their first iteration or dye differently later, sometimes they're things that were difficult to attain and are now much more viable to get. The Anamnesis Anyder gear is just the Shire gear, but the accent colors are different and it dyes differently, giving them a totally different aesthetic. Sometimes re-released gear switches around which role can wear which model, creating more variety for everyone. It's not like I don't want new stuff, but there have definitely been times where I've been excited to see something reused because one of the changes makes it more appealing to me now or the like.

I can understand and even agree, to a point, with complaints about reusing skeletons -- I was kind of upset/disappointed when I realized the E10 model is the same as the Twinning's first (or second...? I don't remember) boss and numerous other skeletons in the game, right down to the mane when it stands up, and many of the animations are the same. Endsinger's model uses animations from the final ShB trial, too, although not many and they're skinned differently so it's not super apparent. But the designs are still cool and unique, and I don't fault them for having to reuse assets in a game this massive. It's just not possible to produce completely unique and new things at the rate that people want.

Funnily enough, the thing you're complaining about being copied is itself a copy of a mob from FFXII pasted into ARR.

Like having a creature from our world just happen to exist in a far off alien world. There is no excuse for this. Make new models please and stop, you can afford to at this point.
If anything I welcome it because RPGs for decades have had recolored mobs and it's part of that "charm".

You also can't really complain about immersion when seemless zones were removed after 1.0 and people are running around wearing 2B outfits and a palico minion and then jump on their Yokai Watch mount. Immersion was thrown out the window when the ARR team decided that instead of being it's own thing by itself, this game was going to be a "Final Fantasy theme park". The writers are telling their own story, but in the spaces in between are filling it with pure Final Fantasy fan service and Square Enix product tie-ins. I don't see how clambering around a crashed android space station from NieR is fine, but a recolored mob is worthy of a forum post.
