Disadvantage for male characters

Is it only me, or do you guys also feel like, that male characters are a little bit in disadvantage in this game?

In my opionen the female sets often look more well designed. But what I mean today is..., that there is again new glam in the Mogshop and again it is just something new for the girls. Last time they gave us the Ryne set for girls. Now Lyse, and again, if you play a male character, there is nothing for you. Just can make a face like this, when looking in the shop ò.ó

Maybe it's just me. But I feel very often in disadvantage with a male character. How do you feel about this?

Might be just my impression but the male variants do indeed look very poorly designed and dull in comparison to what females get. Thancred and Papalymos gear look like modified starter gear sets… Omega set looks good on females, and males look like a shaved husky.


At least make it fair and add stuff for both genders or 1 after another. We now have 2 female exclusives in a row. I understand why people might be frustrated.

* they're edited versions so they're "unique" but still using an already existing outfit as base, so take it as you will

meanwhile, females get:

• 2 unique Y'shtola outfits
• 1 unique Ryne outfit
• 1 unique Alma outfit
• 1 unique Lyse outfit
• 1 unique Krile outfit
• 1 unique Edda outfit
• 1 unique Lightning outfit
• 1 unique Yuna outfit
• 1 unique Omega F onesie
• 1 unique Minfilia onesie
• 1 reused model Yda onesie
• 1 Y'shtola outfit ...that's neither a onesie nor a unique model/color, no idea why it's even in the store?
• and now a second unique Lyse outfit

total outfits: 14
unique outfits: 12

The amount of outfits is balanced, but clearly female characters are favored when designing them. Even right now, ingame, G'raha is the only male character with a customized outfit - even Alphy is just wearing the Sage job gear while Alisaie got a completely new set that will likely be in the store before christmas, so you can add that one up to the list.

*edit* I remembered neither of Alphy's outfits are genderlocked, so....either substract 2 from the male list, or add 2 to the female list, either way it only makes things worse lol

Don't get me started on the healer sets.

WHM is 100% designed with only female characters in mind, you can't change my mind, there's no way you can call that "quinceañera nun" dress unisex.

For what it's worth, Cid does have the unique goggles and Omega has earrings, although there are female outfits with similar bonus pieces. (I am mildly tempted to get Omega's outfit on at least one character just for the earrings, despite knowing the suit is a bit of a disaster.)

Also, Hien's outfit is unique. It has similar elements to the Woad sets, if that's what you're thinking of, but it isn't the same model.

The first "Alphinaud's outfit" is actually Alphinaud+Alisaie's original outfits together, varying by the gender of the wearer.

I do hope it's a sign that they're generally looking at unlocking NPC outfits for both genders. While the numbers again favour female characters, there is some cool stuff there like Lyse's first outfit and various gloves and boots.

How many players you see running around cosplaying any of these characters on a daily basis? I only see bits n pieces of Thancred from time to time.

The only costumes I got are the ones with the hairstyles included. And I can‘t wear them now as Viera.

Snow's outfit seems fairly well used, or certainly was for a while. Possibly falling out of fashion now. And I've come across people using the other outfits occasionally.

And to be fair, I don't see anyone cosplaying the female characters on a daily basis either. They're more common to see than the male character outfits, but not to the point that it seems repetitive.

Personally I have outfits set up with Gosetsu's pants and (separately!) Cid's goggles. And though I'd bought it primarily for the goggles, I actually used Cid's outfit as an AST glamour for a while, and really liked how it looked on my character (though being able to mix and match it would be better). There are other pieces I would potentially use if I had an outfit in mind to use them with.

i think it could be considered unfair. but not really a disadvantage.

that said some more masculine healer options would be nice. slacks, dalmaticas that kinda thing instead of dresses and skirts..

but i'd like to se that accross all roles as well. not every body piece needs an effin cape on it...

and it works both ways. sometimes the female stuff can look quite plain... like the obselete androids aiming body. on a mail has a flak jacket on it. on a female it doesnt... WHY?
