Right now Square is half-implementing a housing system that relies on a revolving door effect that isn't happening because homes owned by inactive accounts aren't being relinquished.

What was even the point to introduce this lottery system if no houses will be made available via vacancies for anyone to even bid on? After people are done claiming relocation openings from people moving to the Empyreum, that'll be it. It's over. No houses are left to bid on. So are we waiting on new wards then? What houses are we bidding on. Where are they coming from. Because with demolition off, there won't be openings. and if they're not adding wards then there's no openings either. Is that it then? Players get a chance at housing once every 2 years after building a new housing zone? What's going on, they need to clarify a little further than just "the fc wards will be available to private buyers soon". Thanks for that, but those will fill too. and then guess what, there's still hundreds of people still waiting for houses to bid on. Where are these houses supposed to come from? Or is housing going to be something that only older players get to have then and newer players should just forget ever wanting one because demolition seems too mean? What's the plan, what's the next move.

That being said, I'm genuinely curious why they've been able to add new wards before, but now people want to act like it's an impossibility when it's brought up. I sure hope in their next live letter, the 2 billion dollar company talks about this so random fanboys can stop speaking on their behalf about their technical limitations.

Their ability to add new wards is contingent on not only acquiring new custom hardware but also having their own blessed team of operations acolytes install it.

Pre-COVID this was already a challenge because they insisted on a specific flavor of hardware and only let their specifically trained people perform the installations. COVID triggered both supply-chain issues and a massive worker shortage. The semi-conductor industry has been particularly hard hit by both. As much money as Square has at its disposal it does not require the volume of chips that the automotive industry does. Since supply is short the one or two remaining chip fabs in the world have dedicated the bulk of their production facilities to the industry that can actually pay them billions.

The accepted theory is that the ward system is hideously inefficient. The SWAG is that the same server racks that mange the wards could handle far more housing if they were instanced.

I like how some people think they can magically create new wards for every server in the game. In theory that could be true, but could it crash the world? Probably.

Like in my operations, I can put a few commands to start up new instances of servers if it's needed, but there is what I call a "credit limit". Plus more does not always mean better in our world, in my example say the servers aren't optimized to run beyond 20 instances currently. We would need to optimize the code to work better for 30 instances. Might even need more new hardware for CPU power and storage.

Like a ward obviously has a lot storage requirements, it also in a sense adding more maps to the server to track so that's also capacity. Server C might have capacity for a few more wards, but servers E-G does not. Obviously they will go with until all servers can have the capacity to add X amount of wards, they won't add any. It's quite a process that likely has it's own roadmap and project plan.
