Bot in NN chat really got out of control

New players used to get invited automatically, but it invited bots, so SE stopped inviting them automatically and asked mentors to invite them using the search feature so they could carefully avoid bots.

If it's reported, the GMs might be able to work out who invited them all.

A good chunk of bot accounts are stolen.


Weird they'd choose to invite a bunch of bots to spam useless text in NN though. Can't really see the benefit for them. Bots aren't around to literally ruin the game for others, they're money makers.

Probably a test run to see how attentive other mentors are to NN. No real point in inviting a bunch of bots to spam RMT links in there if they get kicked out almost immediately.

I can't see any reason for bot to invade the NN. Usually, bot won't go where people can seize their name easily. They even "Wall hack" to avoid being noticed.

Invading the NN just allow everyone to see their name and where they actually are. Making it easier to ban.

One major problem still remains. It seems like people invited, who got kicked, enter the NN again after the 30 min kick automatically. Therefore, once the deed is done, nothing can be done.

Only Square Enix can do a thing in order to ban them all at once.

We need to be sure that NN Can't be reached automaticaly when kicked, and a Mentor need to reinvite people manually, avoiding this kind of event.

Even if you kick them out of the NN spouts that have joined the NN in the past will automatically rejoin 30 minutes later, no Mentor required.

that sounds like the typical mentor in this game, i've said it since it was first introduced and i'll say it again the mentor/NN adds nothing of value to FF14 and should be removed from the game

I still don't get the point why they would wanna be in NN

We've been seeing this on Leviathan for a few months. I counted about 90 Level 50-52 BRDs, all in Amdapor Keep. Nearly all with two character first names and random character last names. Many (not all) enter "0" into chat. The rest are silent (I guess their script isn't doing this).
The only power mentors have in the NN is to kick them every 30 minutes until they come back.

The problem is multi-fold.

• They spam the chat
• They are breaking the TOS which is not being enforced by SE (plenty of threads on that already)
• The list is growing and eventually there will be too many bots to allow in actually legit novices

If SE refuses to address this and we reach the point where there are 412 bots in channel, then SE should just remove NN as a failed experiment. And it wouldn't be Novice Network that failed. It would be SE that failed the players.

A part of me speculated that some folks probably invited those bots purposely into the network to raise the bots visibility so that SE finally inclined to make their move before the media makes too much fuss out of this lol.
