So I Recently Picked up WAR

As the title says I recently started playing WAR. This is also my first time playing a tank (i pretty much always play healer in any MMO) and i finally understand everyone's complaints about tanking in ffxiv. Like what am i supposed to do if the DPS continually run ahead to pull groups/bosses faster than i can get my character to move?

Same thing you should do as a healer. Let them die. lol

You can also be nice about it and try to do your job anyway even as they work against you. Depends on how obnoxious they’re being.

you keep going and meet in the middle then AoE.
If they're smart, they'll bring them to you.

Not for bosses though. There is no legit scenario in a pug where anyone should be just running ahead of the tank and pulling the bosses before they’re in the arena. Maybe in a static, but even in those you at least wait till everyone’s physically present before engaging. It’s just practical.

More subjectively, I think the tank should always pull bosses. They’re the ones who need to be ready for a fight to start bc they have to be ready to generate aggro. So they should be the ones who control when the fight starts. If the tank isn’t ready, it’s bad for the whole group.

    Not this. That's actually reportable.

    _____________

Rather, you do what you can as you gradually learn to move faster.

You needn't stress out about being able to pull off of them instantly, but obviously you shouldn't ignore your means of contribution (which largely come down to holding threat as to make use of your overtuned passive mitigation). If they run from you, then... that's on them, but chances are they'll bring the mobs within your AoE range for easy (if not easier, even) grabs. And as long as threat is taken before they die, that's just free HP for you that'll naturally regen over that fight and the time until the next.

Dungeons can pretty easily be no-tanked, but --unlike a healer at endgame when running with a PLD or WAR-- having a tank makes runs considerably faster (unless, as with any other role, they decide to get butt-hurt and try to hold the run hostage until they can be kicked).

In an 8 man, the lock doesn't open until everyone's in.
In a dungeon, how slow are you that you can't catch up to a boss room?
and you have tomahawk at 15.

And even then, you can just teleport in 15 seconds into the fight, Provoke, and go on unimpeded.

    options:
    A. Let them tank the things they pull. (not great cause they're either going to die or the healer will have to work overtime and then pull aggro and the whole run will just take longer)
    B. Go as fast as you CAN.. and go pull the enemies off them. Silently resent them.
    C. Ask them to stop doing that, politely. (many people in this game aren't aware of how frustrating this is but will gladly accommodate requests)

Some people are very focused on as fast as you humanly can and will pop sprints/teleports/movement boosts. They're welcome to play how they want.. but you are too.

All in all you're probably best off just trying to pull the mobs off them at your earliest convenience. They'll probably be able to weather at least a couple hits. Unless people start getting restless in chat just finish the run.

you gotta move faster then simple as,
you should be pulling at least two packs of enemies regardless of dungeon unless your gear is abysmal.
If you don't want to or not ready to just say at the start of the dungeon.

i too enjoy not doing the role i signed up to do (heal) and instead exercise my psychotic desire for any amount of control over someone by not healing them when they do something i dislike

instead of talking to them i will simply not do the thing i signed up to do (heal) because being social is scary and i much prefer trying to make someone "learn" by punishing them and griefing because i enjoy the misery of others

it's funny though, i don't see "mentor" or "teacher" or "not healer" in the Healer name? Just like I don't see "puller" or "leader" or "head of the pack" in the Tank role? But Healers have "heal" in the name, and Tanks have "tank" so that's kind of awkward
