Multiple Core Processors - how many, if any, does FFXiV use?

Our PC processor chips for some time now have had multiple cores.. with variations of caches, sizes, speeds - capability kinda all over the place. My question is simple enough.. does FFXiV attempt to multi-thread anything it does? By that I mean, processor core number one is figuring out where to materialize the zap you just launched at the bad guy, and processor number two is making the video much more red than normal because your zap is a strawberry bomb, processor number three is handling the comments from your group about how you should have used the peaches flambé ray gun.. and so on. Thanks for any insight; I don't even have a clue where to look for this sort of info. B safe y'all,

The game scales up to 4 cores very well. More than 4 cores are not usefull anymore. Fast RAM gives also a nice speed up. I get 10% more performance when i enable DOCP/XMP.

    Cheers

I can confirm FF14 is extremely sensitive to RAM speed and timings. Difference is night and day when I pump the RAM and timings on my Samsung B-die chips.

    Tested with the benchmark (YMMV)
My setup: 6/12 core i7 6800k cpu, rtx 3090 gpu, 24gb ram. Benchmark set to: 1440p windowed, max settings, gsync disabled.

    Scores:
16433 - 12 cores, All bios settings at default
    16699 - 6 cores (hyper-threading disabled in bios)
    15321 - 4 cores (2 cores disabled in bios)
    11803 - 2 cores (4 cores disabled in bios)

So no difference at all between 12 and 6 cores, and only a fairly mild one between 4 and 6 (possibly due to the system being able to offload background processes).

This is pretty typical for games and why single core performance is emphasized for gaming builds.

Would you mind giving more details on your resolution and quality setting?
I'm going to put together two new systems this summer for playing FFXIV on 32" 4K monitors at 144 FPS+ with max bling, and I'd like to make sure the systems have enough GPU and CPU horsepower to get the job done.

Thanks in advance, to anyone who provides info.

I'm running 2560x1440 Full Screen at Maximum. My Core i9-12900K also got OCTVB +2 enabled from my Asus ROG Strix Z690-A D4.

And i guess, this is the reason why so many people have stability problems only with this game. Their RAM or the RAM-MoBo-connection is faulty or the have too sharp RAM timings and the game crashes randomly. Other applications do not crash because they do not strain the RAM subsystem so much like FF14.

    Cheers

I gave my RAM unrealistic stress after tuning. Rock stable.

Many things can go wrong if someone encountered stability issues. Not only the RAM.

Wow haha yeah I def need to upgrade the rest of my system. Holding out for now in the hope that alder lake-x is real. Figured my setup would be a good test with regard to OP's question since Im probably on the extreme end of CPU bottlenecking lmao.

Agree that xiv does seem to benefit a lot from memory overclocking, like you all said.
