I update to windows 10 today. So I could continue playing. When I log into ffxiv it is making me download the game over. But all the files are still on my computer. Any ideas why this is?

i had windows 10 on my system and ffxiv game launcher and game worked fine and upgraded to windows 11 and all still works .
Maybe it changed the directory where they are located. You could move the game files to where ever it is trying to download them to.
In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.

I'm going to assume you were using an older version of Windows (Windows 7 perhaps?), in which case, when you install a new version of Windows it basically requires all your programs to be reinstalled as well unfortunately, including FFXIV (this is why I loathe updating to new versions of Windows, but sometimes it's unavoidable).
Sadly you will have to reinstall the game again for Windows 10, there is no way around this I'm afraid.![]()
I remember when I updated my old laptop to Windows 10 it said that all my files were where they were originally....yet a bunch of the stuff I had installed no longer worked. There is definitely something fishy with the automatic updating to Windows 10. So it could be that the directories aren't quite named the same as they originally were which is definitely annoying, and concerning.I'm going to assume you were using an older version of Windows (Windows 7 perhaps?), in which case, when you install a new version of Windows it basically requires all your programs to be reinstalled as well unfortunately, including FFXIV (this is why I loathe updating to new versions of Windows, but sometimes it's unavoidable).

If you can find the launcher file, you can just make a shortcut on your desktop to it. FFXIV will run off of any media. When I moved my copy from my PCIE 4 drive to a secondary ssd, all I did was copy/paste and changed the shortcut.

I used the copy and paste method when moving from an old computer to a new one as well.

yeah.
just find your old install of FFXIV, launch the game and stop/close it mid-download
find the new location of FFXIV and just copy over your old install.
It honestly might just be a solid idea to reinstall it to be safe.
