Given that they tend to have different writers responsible for different storylines, I have zero confidence they're going to maintain the relative neutrality of the Omega quests and will just go right back to pushing one side as having made the "right" decision in the MSQ and the other sidestories.

Finally got around to this quest, and I have to say its one of my favourites. Really nice way to wrap up both Omegas story and a nice prologue for the events of Endwalker. My mind went straight to this forum when it came to actually talking about the rights and wrongs of the characters answers. Personally speaking I loved the expansions story and Venet became on of my favourite characters, so you can guess what answer I put! I doubt we will go much more in-depth then this, but at least it was a nice nod and way to bring up the expansions subjects.

Might come as a surprise to the people what know me well, but I actually said that none of them were justified - because they weren't. They all had good reasons for doing what they did - from their own perspectives, if none other's - but to cause death and destruction on the scale all three did is indefensible.

That said, I happen to agree with Venat's ideology the most of the three; unlike Hermes, who is so caught up in his quest for answers he doesn't recognize it's right in front of him, and Emet-Selch, who is stuck living in a past that never was and never will be, she looks to the future with hope and sacrifices everything to ensure life perseveres. That's much more admirable than stumbling onto and losing yourself in nihilism or drowning in nostalgia... to me, anyways.

I guess I don't know you that well then, because that sounds pretty on-brand to me.

Venat's in a thorny position, because while it's not generally proper to choose suffering for its own sake, especially inflicting that on others, she did so because she already knew the outcome. I'm not really that versed in Nietzsche, but I think the Endwalker time loop is probably the closest a JRPG has ever come to (accurately) depicting the concept of eternal return. It's not really about accepting the idea that things will repeat forever, but accepting that every single event matters in shaping the present, so if things were to repeat, they'd have to play out the same way. Venat simply made the choice to finish the cycle, on behalf of every living and/or dying thing in the universe, including those that had yet to live and/or die, which is really hardcore when you think about it. (Also couldn't resist the Dragon's Dogma quote, sorry.)

Philosophize all you wish (Zodiark knows I do it enough myself to keep myself sane with how crazy the world and it's people get) to justify your stance, but I personally will NEVER be on board with the "force mankind to survive, AT ANY COST" rationale. Especially when you craft a story with a Social Darwinist being presented as the all-loving herois instead of the villain that those who espouse said philosophy have always traditionally been. That's all I'll say, and nothing anyone can utter will convince me to shift my stance on this matter. Siding with Venat and not condemning her for her actions (if not the results) requires me to ignore how she offends my very soul and compromise on my morals, something I WILL NEVER DO.

I don't know, man. She said that she could literally perceive fate. It's more like, she accepted her horrible fate, accepted not making a choice, letting fate take its course, and have its way with her.

When Venat felt that intimidating yet intimate force without, she let it take the reins and absolve her of responsibility. Not just to her people, but to herself. She believed herself above her fellow man, while simultaneously making her own perception of her fellow man as weak and in need of guidance as her reason to not return.

Never once admitting to herself that by staying, she was robbing her fellows of their struggles. Inviting them to ask for her guidance by choosing to live on. Weakening them with every instance of her help.

And then, in the moment that mattered most, she still retreated from the race she had coddled. Using the strength she had developed by robbing them of their struggles, she destroyed them.

In the end she was indeed a hardcore zealot. Narcissistic to the last. Believing her way was synonymous with the decree of fate. She was literally a kratocrat. She literally thought that the WoL and Scions would fail to overpower her and die.

I don't recall getting that impression at all. As far as I remember, she tested us and was pleased that we passed the trial.

I’m gonna be frank. However biased I may be when defending Venat, nothing will quite match the motivated reasoning of some of these posts. There is quite literally no point to discussing this further, it will not be any different than the other threads we’ve already had on this.

Move on. Or better yet forge ahead.

They can't sadly. When it is their time to return to the star let us hope that their next life they can forge ahead.
