I don't like WoW. And I absolutely loved XI back in the day, but for the most part leveling was still a huge boring grind. Facerolling Colibri (or whatever happened to be the current fastest EXP camp at the time) for months with very little else to do was not what made XI such a great game.
XIV isn't succesful because the UI was horrible (and still isn't great), the combat was boring, there was no content, and it runs horribly even on high-end systems.
The leveling speed has nothing to do with it. As long as players are enjoying themselves, it doesn't matter if it takes a year or a month to get to cap.
In our current XIV, making it take longer to get to 50 would not make it more fun. It isn't fun now, and just making it longer without adding anything enjoyable to it (which the devs currently aren't in a position to do) would make it worse.

Fixed for you. If you're gonna troll about that, at least have the decency to mention the game FFXI copied.
Edit: just looked at the name of the person I was quoting... >.>;

* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
