The thing is that when PL is so common and popular then PL becomes the "normal exp rate" by its very definition.
    normal - adjective
    1. conforming to the standard or the common type; usual; not abnormal; regular; natural.
    2. serving to establish a standard.

the pace of levelling completely invalidates all low level equipment. and thus noone ever makes it. because there no point buying a decent piece of armor or getting a decent weapon cos in just couple of hours you're gonna need a new one....

what the game needs i think is to slow down levelling and add a ton of low level content with caps... think CoP (yes i know its xi and xiv isn't xi) CoP is quite probably the best thing about ffxi fantastic story involving immersing some wicked fights and caps all the way. you couldnt just hit 75 and burn it. that is the kinda thing xiv needs. slow paced levelling with a ton of stuff to do along the journey.

what that does is bring back a sense of accomplishment. great i'm level 30 i can go venture into my promies. great i'm level 40 i can go into the aquaducts.. and the same again with bcnms and other content hell even getting a kazham pass felt like an accomplishment. It actually felt like you achieved things where in xiv there's nothing that currently has that sense of accomplishment.

    xiv is pretty much

not 50 yet > still not 50 yet > still not 50 yet > woo 50.... now what?
there is nothing along that journey that gives you any sense of accomplisment.
