No one plays this game for the 'fun' of leveling up.
We play it for the fun shit we can do @ 50.... for a week, until it gets boring.

IMO, I think in present MMO market, which there are a lot of games out there, people have less patient to play it.
And if they can't hit lv cap in just 1 month, they might go away and play other game...
The only way to keep players playing MMO is to let them cap very fast, so they can enjoy the end-game contents for a while, or they can enjoy leveling other class.
I think OP must look in the big picture that this game don't have only DoW/M to play.. there are other classes too.. DoH, DoL, ppl can play it for many months before all classes cap.
With introduction to 2.0 and these a lot of contents since Yoshi-P took over the team, it will take new player many months to get everything they need.
Slow leveling kill the game too. no one want to play for 6 month to cap 1 job anymore. Just forget FFXI and enjoy FFXIV at its current state.
Glad the 2nd thread got locked >_>
It's not just that. Leveling is a poor excuse for content, period.
Giving a bout a 1 hour per level rate solo is optimal, and that's what I experienced mid to late levels on Dragoon. It worked. It was fun, it gave me time to play with new toys and get used to new concepts with it.
For parties, I learn my task for events, how to work what I need to. But I'm having fun in the current game content.
And here's the run of it - it should be CONTENT that keeps players occupied. Not trying to achieve the "You must be this tall(In levels) to ride this ride." Part of the theme park.
Optimally what you want to do is to create a system in which repeating content is both enjoyable and helps contribute to overall long term goals. Where exploration both in terms of physical areas as well as stragities are rewarded rather than punished by pushing speed-run ideals on us.
And more than anything, story, story, story. FFXI was bursting with lore with only a year into the game (NA release) and having that sort of richness will set the game apart, and make going into the world that much more fun.
Extending the time it takes to level? That's not the answer to anything. That's not adventuring, that's grinding. I'd rather have fun with a pick-up-group playing slow and casual in a raid run and getting to know each other while still getting good drops for having an odd set up. Then sit there grumbling on how one person is harping about our EXP/Hr being low at some grind party.
I have to agree. Sure the grind was long and borring in some cases(same can be said with spaming dungeions and events) but at least their was a sense of "hey guys I hit 35!" and that was good reason to celebrate now its hey guys i hit 20, 2 hours later "hey guys i hit 35" 2 hours later, "hey guys I hit 45" 2 hours later "hey guys I'm Capped" one week later "all my jobs are 50, have done every dungeon in a pick up group, I am bored, gona go play Diablo ...." no, the game needs its long grind back, sure its not very casual friendly but that didnt stop 40k casual players from subscribing to xi.I guess times changed and MMOs are not expected to be a grind anymore. I always thought that progress of the character is the main addicting factor in MMO, and that it should be enjoyed at least for a few weeks till you achieve the max lvl, but i guess nowadays kids just want to start the game with lvl50 char instead of enjoying the growth of it...
Well i guess its a personal choice of what to expect from a game, but me - I would like it to be challenging and would want to enjoy the feeling of the progress instead of capping instantly and spamming same instance over and over...
LOL @ Kouji pic on the bottom of his posts. maybe thats why he is ok with easy lvl cap, apreantly he has issues with games that take a certain lvl or skill or pursistance to be good at. Wich is ok with me, the more people like that this game loses, the less we have worry about SE trying to please em and we can get back to playing a more respectable MMO.
As far as trying to target the casual gamers and get them to subscribe. I belive its already been said a million times, there are dozens or MMOs that already target that group half of wich are free to play wich is perfect for the targeted audiance because they likely are people who would rather play somthing for a week, beat it, and move on to the next game, XI was full of enthusiast because they actually enjoyed the content and not just the acomplisments. Just my opinion but I realy dont care if we lose the realy casual gamers, they dont offer much to the game and will likely cancle subsriptions once WoW-2 comes out or somthing like it. SE had a good thing with XI prior lvl cap 80+ once the game became simply a notch on some op gamers belt then it was destined for doom. If you want a "Wam bam, thank you ma'm" game , stick to off line games or LOL mmos like WoW, Content should count no matter what lvl it is, right now, no matter what SE releases, it will become a joke of content in about a months time due to insainly fast xping. I dont care to take a month to hit 10 lvls soo long as thats the avg time, just means when I hit cap, I can actually have something to feel acomplished about.
Hey bro do me a favour and take a youtube video of yourself going from 10-50 in 8 hours ok? thxI have to agree. 7UP!
Nope, people will just kill the weakest monster that caps out and AoE burn them.I feel if they did something like this they can control easily how fast people level.
Ther'es no point in trying to limit the fastest, most hardcore players leveling speed. You only end up punishing everyone else for no reason.
The leveling speed is fine, I don't know what would possess anyone to demand that we level slower.
